Title: The movie that just won't die.......
Post by: Lola on May 16, 2008, 08:25:50 PM
I found this on HDA website.

http://www.rte.ie/arts/2008/0512/beckhamv.html

There is also a small mention in the May 16 issue of Entertainment Weekly. As I read it I had a thought.......EW magazine posts their email address and I thought we should all send an email protesting the movie. Letting Ben Stiller and the production company know how we feel about them making parody of the Hardys.

I totally agree with you Lola, let's flood their inbox with messages! It was bad enough already, but now this! I don't even want to think what part Victoria would play in a Hardy Boys movie! >:(

It would be a good idea to protest, but I'm wondering if it will actually benefit us. I've heard that a lot of attention, even negative, lets producers know that there is some kind of interest, however bad :-\

What's the old saying, all publicity's good publicity? Who knows, but I agree, it looks like its just going to make fun of the Hardys. I don't even want to think how they'll portray Chet!

I know.
It's the same with the new Nancy Drew movie.I didn't watch because it looked like they were making fun of her.
It's the same thing with this movie. :-\

Nice, although you messed up the title for Casefiles #32.  Its not Will To Kill, it is actually called Blood Money.  (Boy, did the casefiles ever have nicer titles than the UB's.  Somehow I just don't see titles like Blood Money or Flesh and Blood fitting into the UB series lineup, if S&S were ever thinking about using titles like those.)

Why must they ruin a good thing. Nancy Drew, Dukes of Hazzard everything. why dont they just leave it alone. I dont want the hardy boys ruin too.

i say just no1 go watch the movie, hit them where it hurts, their pockets. if it is a flop at the box office, they will think twice b4 making another retarded movie in attempts to destroy the great classic that is the Hardy Boys!

and i can just see them having beckham play iola. *shudders* that would be a great character ruined if i ever saw 1

Yeah, I hear ya. I used to watch The Dukes of Hazzard TV series from the '80's in reruns and even met the actress who plays Daisy and the actor who plays Cooter. I'm pretty sure none of the cast appreciate the exploitation.

It better flop. And LOL at the Iola thing haha. But you know, even if it does flop they will probably do some kind of damage control or pretend it didn't even exist.

if they have to make a HB movie they could least make it cartoon so that the characters could actually look right!

Why would you want a cartoon?  The past has shown us that the Hardy Boys are more popular when they get the right actors.us

if a movie hasnt been started within two years of it being announced, studios usually dont think there is enough pressure to make it, this movie is most likely dead in the water
Title: Re: The movie that just won't die.......

Surprisingly enough, Fox keeps announcing more info on the movie yearly, so its not quite 'dead in the water'.

dead in the water sounds like the title of an HB book of some sort. is it?

#127 is actually a pretty good book.  Especially considering its nowhere near the beginning of the series.  Definitely not a special one to end a series, but a good book all the same.

Yep, 127 is the last Casefiles book.  There were three more planned, but they were cancelled, but one, #130 The Crisscross Crime was reedited to fit into the Digest continuity as #150 The Crisscross Crime.

thats lame. ya, i vaguely remember that casefiles was left unfinished. i member reading the last book and being like, "ok, now what?" cuz it was obvious there shoulda been another book after that 1. it was a disappointing end to a fantastic series >:(

Well, if you look at it from another view, the April 1998 book, Process of Elimination was the last book in the Hardy Boys Casefiles/Nancy Drew Files universe, and not Dead In The Water.

Process of Elimination didn't really have an ending for the casefiles though, or am I remembering wrong? :-\

i had no idea, cuz ive never read any of the HB/ND mergers cuz i was never really a ND fan, so i never put in the effort to find them. but now i have to read this book! but is it really an ending to casefiles? or a cliffhanger ending with unfinished business like dead in the water
Title: Re: The movie that just won't die.......
Post by: SDLagent on July 16, 2008, 02:17:17 PM
I've never read either books, but I'm sure neither of them rap-up the series. That's the way it is with long series that are like The Hardy Boys - #127 wasn't the planned last book of the Casefiles, and #36 wasn't the planned last book of the SuperMysteries, they just are the last books, simply because the series was discontinued. And even #128, #1929, or #1930 wouldn't have closed out the Casefiles and SM #39 wouldn't have closed out that series, because with these kind of series the publishers don't have a planned number of books, they just ride them as long as they can, until they run out of gas...
Title: Re: The movie that just won't die.......
Post by: NZone on July 16, 2008, 02:26:04 PM
While it may be more artistic, and pleasing to the fans to simply close out a series with money still in the tank, its not gonna happen. Money is a universal language.
Title: Re: The movie that just won't die.......
Post by: devoika86 on July 16, 2008, 06:31:18 PM
how would they lose money by closing the series just by having a final book, or stopping it in the middle alltogether with out a conclusion of some sort, and never returning to the series again?

ok...so i too think this "movie" is a bad idea..but if there were any movies on the hardy boys when they were younger..but i cant picture which actors are suitable to play them..unfortunately...
Title: Re: The movie that just won't die.......
Post by: SDLagent on July 24, 2008, 02:48:38 AM
There's lots of young actors out there, it wouldn't be any harder then to find an actor for another famous character. And anyone would be better then Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller as the Hardy boys!

Alex Pettyfer might work for Joe (other then that he's from the UK)...

I'll always see Alex Pettyfer as Alex Rider though. Too bad he can't resume the rest of the movies (if there's going to be any).

You?re talking about the one with Emma Roberts from 2007, right? It wasn?t as bad as I thought it would be. I heard that they might do a sequel.

But I still don?t get why they take a 1930?s Nancy Drew and place her in the modern day. I read somewhere that they did that on purpose & I just find that weird. Nancy Drew always keeps up with the times ? that?s why the series has lasted.

Anyways, I still can?t get over how mad I will be if they go ahead with The Hardy Men ? it?s just wrong on so many levels. Especially when they can take those millions and do something really worthwhile. All the investment they would put in something like this ridiculous. What a waste! I hope it flops big-time!

Even if Hardy men is not that good there could still be positive side effects:
-Renewed interst in the HB books makeing more fans and more "Forumers."
-Possible nolivilazation or Movie based Graphic Novel addind to HB book count.
-Hay mabey a HM viedogame if where luckey

Or more people turned off the HBs because of how dumb the movie is. I think it could shed a negative light and do more harm than any good.

Who would want to read a book with more details about the movie and have a video game featuring losers?

I know you?re trying to look on the bright side - but sadly, there is none.

And the movie just won?t die! Who will end this madness?!?!

Actually Olivia, the movie just might die, because I looked up the actors that are supposed to play the 'Hardy Men' (Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise, right?) and it doesn't mention the movie at all in their filmography records on Wikipedia.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, if there had already been a Hardy Boys movie I wouldn't mind the idea of The Hardy Men, but if this is going to be a lot of people first impression of the brothers...no way! Plus, people might not even get it if they aren't introduced to The Hardy Boys first.

This has happened to planed moves before. For a short while, they have a chance of being made, then they have been  cancilled. Tom Cruise and Ben Stiller better deal with the fact that this is not going to work. Even if it is made critics will complain about the plot and it will be on the worst moves list.

Here's two pages each of better Franks and Joes:

I find that critics often give high ratings to movies that actually suck. And since it?s suppose to be a dumb comedy (and it will certainly achieve that), there?s actually a chance of praise as it will fulfill that expectation ::)

Anyways, thanks for the links. I recognize most of the actors, and the one guy actually just came to General Hospital last year.

Quick note: let?s all remember that these are just headshots. A person?s looks can almost change with a particular demeanor: portrayal is key.

My choices in chronological order:

Frank:

1. First page, third row, fourth guy (blue sweater)
2. First page, fourth row, third guy (red shirt)

If they stopped smiling, I could probably imagine them as Frank. Ha.

Joe:

1. First page, first row, second guy (white jacket with red stripe)
2. First page, fourth row, third guy who is the same as the second guy, I think (white-ish/gray shirt)
3. Second page, first row, first two photos who are the same guy (b&w, blue shirt)

Obviously the second and/or the third choice would be an older Joe.

I would pair:

Frank #1 and Joe #3

Frank #2 and Joe #1
