How many of you prefer the Network over ATAC? Personally, I do.
NETWORK! HOO HOO! :D
I wouldn't say I'm a "Network fan", but I do prefer it over ATAC, no question about it!
ROFL! I was thinking about posting something like this!
I haven't even read that many Casefiles, but it's sad that I can tell it's wayyy better than American Toads After Crazies!
I like American Teens Against Crime better!

Yes, the originals and the Digests. ;)

Anyway... I think the Network was awesome for the casefiles, and ATAC is good for the age group posted for the UB's, so I don't really have an opinion *shrugs*

Sheesh. No reason to be Miss Crabby. We can all be civil on here. We can all be mature reasonable.
Uh, okay. This thread says "calling all network fans", not "calling all network critics" LOL.
Yeah, yikes!
Well you guys are getting on Calling All ATAC Fans.
The intention here isn't to offend anyone - it's just to have some discussion. I apologize if anyone thinks it's going too far. I know I did poke some fun at ATAC, but it wasn't to be mean.
I don't know, I find it kind of entertaining sometimes that we (generally) have two sides. It's interesting to see how we look at things differently, especially when we we talk about the different individual books/missions too.
On another thread I was talking about a parody of the HB:UB. But I even read parodies of the "regular" HB's too.
One thing I have noticed, in the Network V. ATAC battleground, we almost never talk about the Network. Its either people bashing ATAC or people going "ATAC Rules"
Well, even if we had an in-depth discussion it wouldn't work because not everyone is familiar with the Network. On the other hand, most people on this board are familiar with ATAC.
Anyways, the only thread that has any sort of crossover discussion is under the poll. Otherwise, the threads are pretty much separate.
I was just reading Haunted and I just had to go through a boring part with Frank raking leaves and talking a mile a minute with other inmates cleaning up the leaves.
Yeah, I just read that last night or the night before!
Is that all the action they can put in the UB books? Raking up leaves and talking? Plus it gets pretty boring just moving around the grounds of one building. What happened to the days where the Hardy's would go to different places of a town to investigate a crime?

2) You and capital I's don't seem to get along.

I mean, there may or may not be small aspects that you could do without or would want to change a little.
But in the UBs, there seems to be several large things that can be critiqued.
Just an observation, not trying to provoke a fight! Anyways, this is the Network thread.
No, because I am reading one right now, and I can't find anything to critique other than the fact that you don't understand what is going on because the story keeps changing. There is no continuity other than relationships to the hardy boys

In Self-Defense I found to be a pretty lackluster Casefile. However, Foul Play is a favorite Casefile of mine.

That's because you didn't read the good books, before saying the UBs are better, please read at least 2 books from this list:
-Casefile # 10
-Casefile # 25
-Highway Robbery (I forget it's number)
-Absoulute Zero (I forget it's number)
One issue, no book stores have them. The library does not carry them. Where do I get them. They sell for 1 cent on ebay. I am series.
Alot of ND HB '88 crossovers sell for 1 cent, and so do all the casefiles I see. Guess they're not worth much...... J/K :D
LOL. But then you have to pay for the shipping.
Actually, it's because they are used, not new so its value does sort of go down. And they probably want room in their warehouse or whatever. Plus all the costs of making it have already been covered so they already made their money.
But yeah...ha ha.
The ones that fans consider the "better" ones are a lot higher in cost, obviously.
Yeah, like Secrets of the Nile was 18+ dollars, and Opreation Titanic was 2 cents. :D
Well, with a name like Operation: Titantic ;)

Yeah, about 500 dollars for shipping....

Swift, I only remember reading 2 casefiles. Wow, your amazing!
I've read Casefiles 1-127. And I continue to reread books from the series. And every time that I reread a Casefile I still get that thrill that I got the first time that I read the book knowing that I was reading a new Hardy Boys adventure.

Take some advice from a guy who has read all 127, if you want to read a really good starter book for the series, read
Thick As Thieves (Joe goes to Criminal Convention to help pull off the heist of the century) or
Disaster For Hire (Fenton Hardy gets arrested for Blackmail and Murder, and the Hardys have to chase after an arsonist), or another book from between volume 1 & 66.
Altough I haven't read all the casefiles, I have read read a lot, and can tell you right off the bat if you are going to read Thick As Thieves you need to read the Crowning Terror first. I didn't and part of the Crowning Terror was spoiled for me.
Also, to save you grief, do NOT read Countdown To Terror before Trouble In The Pipeline. Once again, altough I haven't read Trouble In Pipeline I already know the bad guy.
Lastly, read Dead On Target before Line Of Fire, you'll thank me later.

Hey tomswift,

Actually I'm still missing a few Casefiles. I actually got into the Casefiles back in 1995, right near the end of the series, and by that point, in 95, a lot of the early Casefiles had gone out of print. But thanks to the interlibrary loan program at the local library I was able to read every book in the series.
As for the UB's, I do have all of them, but they are more or less collectibles since eventually the UB"s will be discontinued and sent out of print and then it will be tricky to get all the books in 'new' condition.
Hopefully someday $&$ will get back to writing good Hardy Boys rather than the garbage that they are putting out now.
Got them in plastic cases for when you can sell them or something.

The UB's are ugly and disgusting. Infact, just recently I was putting Mylar protectors on the dustjackets to my Tom Swift and Hardy Boys (Applewood) books so that I don't lose the Dustjackets. And it was the archival non-acidic Mylar protectors that I used.

Isn't it also rated R?
PG-13 I think
Yeah, it is PG-13.
I don't watch R-rated ones.. I don't promote bad movies.. Its not R rated!!
Oh yeah it was Scarey Movie that was R!
R-rated movies are not automatically bad
Gladiator
Air Force One
The Patriot
Braveheart
The Matrix Trilogy
Die Hard movies
I know. Aliean, Terninator, ect.

Mostly no, but there are a few good ones.
I don't think that I have ever watched an R rated movie...
But Aliean is a classic!
and so is Terminator!
Well, I have not watched those "classics"
well apparently ::) (though I'm not surprised...)
If you're under 18, you can't see R rated movies. Do you even know what R stands for?
under 17, and you can if you see them with someone over 17 or if someone rents one
Well, what if they don't let you see it? And R stands for Restricted.
I know what it stands for, and I'm over 17
Well, some of us are not.
Yeah, but who brought it up? ::)
You can see R-rated movies on TV.
aren't those usually edited down a ton?
Yes and no. I'm assuming we're just talking about basic/general channels so I guess they are edited, but at the same time, if it's on late at night I don't think they are.
But over the years they are putting on movies earlier and earlier with less/no editing or it seems that way.
also aren't they edited down for time?
Yeah, that's what I was including in the editing. Not just some of the content, but the running length too. You're right.
So, a lot of times with movies that were released in theaters with an R rating, if you see them on TV, you'll notice that if, say language in one scene was a problem, a lot of times that scene will be completely removed from the film if it does not contribute that much to the story, but if it does, then a lot of times the studios will tell the stations to air it between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., or the studios will get the actors to, for TV broadcast, re-record the lines in those scenes with less offensive language.
I know that in the film Happy Gilmore, whenever it is aired on TV, a lot of the film is redubbed so that stations can air it at 6, 7, 8 o'clock in the evening. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116483/alternateversions)

R=17 and older, Porn is usually NR

Whoa! That's not true at all! I've seen several R rated movies, and they're NOT full of nudity and porn! I don't know what movies you've seen, but like NZone says, porn is probably not rated...or
maybe NC17. (
not that I watch porn.)
Sorry, I have not watched R rated movies. I was just making a guess. I guess I should not be so steretypical...
A lot of R-rated movies might just have a lot of swearing, a lot of violence and/or mature issues too.
I've seen one R-rated movie called The Rain Man. It was pretty good, but it did have some swearing, and one other inappropriate scene.
I've seen 'Open Water'. I'm not sure what it was rated, though. Oh, and 'Jaws'.
I guess I stereotyped R rated movies!
I know that I've bought a few DVD's that will say that they are rated "G" or "PG" and when I've gone through the cash they'll pop up asking whether I'm 18 or older.
Last November I remember buying Volume 3 of Disney's Ducktales, the old 1980's cartoon, and when I went through the cash, even the cashier was surprised at this, but up popped "Are you 18 or older?" So, I guess that even for Ducktales you need to be an adult in order to see those DVD's, even though the DVD's are in the Children/Family area of the electronics department at Wal-Mart.
Wal*Mart is so stupid about that! Most TV shows are Unreted and if you look on their website it says you must be 18 r older to buy it! Yet its in the Family DVD section! Luckley everyone ignores that where I'm from. Or do I look 18? ;)

Well I was justing reading yesterday on a news website that the old 1974-1983 TV series,
Little House On The Prairie is just about to be released in the Netherlands, and over there, because Universal wasn't willing to pay the thousands, possible millions of dollars, for testers from the country's film board view every episode to give each season a rating; so in the Netherlands
Little House On The Prairie is going to be getting an 'R/M/18+' (or whatever the rating is for 18 or older) on every season set.

LOL! Man Little House on the Parie! Sorry kid just too violent for you, you need a parent to get this! ::)
Is that not Little Mosque on the Prairie?

Completely different series.
Little Mosque On The Prairie is still being produced by the CBC, whereas
Little House On The Prairie wrapped production in 1983. And it is the 1974-1983 series that is being rated R in the Netherlands.
Plus, ''Little House on the Prairie'' is (loosely) based on a true story.
