aren't those usually edited down a ton?

Olivia

Yes and no. I'm assuming we're just talking about basic/general channels so I guess they are edited, but at the same time, if it's on late at night I don't think they are.

But over the years they are putting on movies earlier and earlier with less/no editing or it seems that way.

NZone

also aren't they edited down for time?

Yeah, that's what I was including in the editing. Not just some of the content, but the running length too. You're right.

So, a lot of times with movies that were released in theaters with an R rating, if you see them on TV, you'll notice that if, say language in one scene was a problem, a lot of times that scene will be completely removed from the film if it does not contribute that much to the story, but if it does, then a lot of times the studios will tell the stations to air it between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., or the studios will get the actors to, for TV broadcast, re-record the lines in those scenes with less offensive language.

I know that in the film Happy Gilmore, whenever it is aired on TV, a lot of the film is redubbed so that stations can air it at 6, 7, 8 o'clock in the evening. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116483/alternateversions)

R=Restricted Under 18

I think!

An R rating means that it is for people who are 18 and older only.

Usually on TV the highest rating you'll usually see is PG-13.

Whoa! That's not true at all! I've seen several R rated movies, and they're NOT full of nudity and porn! I don't know what movies you've seen, but like NZone says, porn is probably not rated...or maybe NC17. (not that I watch porn.)

Sorry, I have not watched R rated movies. I was just making a guess. I guess I should not be so steretypical...

Olivia

A lot of R-rated movies might just have a lot of swearing, a lot of violence and/or mature issues too.

FrankJoeATAC

I've seen one R-rated movie called The Rain Man. It was pretty good, but it did have some swearing, and one other inappropriate scene.

JoeHardyRocks

I've seen 'Open Water'. I'm not sure what it was rated, though. Oh, and 'Jaws'.
