Title: That Infamous Self-Destructing CD
Post by: tomswift2002 on May 05, 2022, 08:04:25 AM
So in the Undercover Brothers series, the Hardy's received all their top-secret assignments on self-destructing CD' that would play the mission orders once and then self-destruct that portion of the CD, and from then on become a standard music CD.

I wonder if someone at S&S had heard of these in 2004 or 2005:

Maybe so. I would have thought it was inspired by the self-destructing messages on Mission: Impossible or Inspector Gadget.

It does remind me of Mission Impossible.

I always thought about Mission Impossible, but the 1988 continuation version:

It was actual discs that they used in this version instead of tape.  Sadly this series didn't last very long.

On a side note, the "bad guy" in this episode is played by "Q" actor John de Lancie.  Hard for me to not now immediately think of Star Trek when watching this episode.

I grew up watching the 1988 version of Mission: Impossible. I love that iteration! The 1960s original is great too though.

I still remember "Rocky Road", which had the infamous "Re-reformating disk". And yes there's an explanation, but the fact that Frank and Joe fell for that nonsense, which means they somehow didn't understand how the mission disks work is ridiculous.

Not to mention but the next book l, "Burned", was about a CD Piracy job.

Not to mention ATAC would (sometimes) throw bricks through open windows to get Frank and Joe's attention. (really smart idea guys). Guessing safely wasn't a big deal to them.
