For the past three years we have been reading a book a month. New members are welcome to join in.
Sign-up here for what month you'd like to lead the discussion. At first we'll start off with one month per person. If we find later (Deceember 1?) on that there are months that no one's signed-up for then we may let people who have already signed up a chance to lead in another month.
And please remember to put your forum name, the book title and what series (Grosset & Dunlap Mystery Stories, Simon & Schuster Mystery Stories, Casefiles, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys SuperMystery'88, Hardy Boys and Tom Swift Ultra Thriller, Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers, Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers Super Mystery, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Super Mystery'07, Graphic Novel, Clues Brothers, Secret Files, Be A Detective, Super Sleuths!...I don't think I forgot any series---and Hardy Boys Adventures doesn't count because it's not out yet, and because the books will be getting their own discussion pages as they are released!)

Still thinking on this one, but I'm sure I will want to snag one of the months somewhere...
I'll have to see if there are any favorite Hardy Boys books I've been wanting to do still....so many to choose from
Okay, I'm kinda wanting to do a different kind of book but I don't know if it will really fit the format of this or if many Hardy Boys fans will have this in their collections or not. (Or at least have readible access to it.) Would it be too much to try something like The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook? It does contain 8 short stories but there's not necessarily one flowing narrative or anything, so it's not really the same and I understand that. If it doesn't fit the scope of the book club, that's okay.
If not, then I'll take The Shattered Helmet (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52) for February, if that's cool.

I agree - I think it would work fine with the short stories. :) 8)
Okay- well, maybe I'll hold off and see how many others take up available slots. If there are still some open slots by the time December rolls around, then maybe I'll take on one of the unclaimed months with The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook.

Okay- we've got three months filled... still 9 wide open- any other takers?
I might... :)
That would be cool. :) 8) So far we've got representatives from 3 different incarnations of The Hardy Boys- the Digests (i.e. #59-190), the original series (i.e. #1-58, whether original text or revised editions) and The Hardy Boys Casefiles.
It'd be nice to have some representatives from other series as well... like say-
QuoteNancy Drew and Hardy Boys SuperMystery'88, Hardy Boys and Tom Swift Ultra Thriller, Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers, Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers Super Mystery, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Super Mystery'07, Graphic Novel, Clues Brothers, Secret Files, Be A Detective, Super Sleuths!
and possibly other books still.
Well, really it's only 2 incarnations that are represented, since the Originals and Digests are the same series, just different publisher's (of course #'s 59-66 have been released by Grosset & Dunlap and Simon & Schuster).
And, remember with the Hardy Boys/Tom Swift Ultra Thriller series, we are doing "Time Bomb" next month, so "The Alien Factor" is still available for 2013 and beyond.

True, but I meant "incarnation" in a more loose sense- I know that the Originals and Digests are really the same series, but even so- there is a definite difference in the writing style for both. The Digests started out from #59 in a similar fashion to earlier books, but by #84, the series started changing things up some with fewer chapters and tighter stories. (Not saying that's a bad thing necessarily- I enjoy all of them. I was just saying there is a bit of a difference.) But yes- it is still all the same series.
Anyone else going to take a month?
Hopefully so... we really need to have this planned out in advance if possible, so everyone can map out their reading schedules...

Good deal. Thanks for taking a slot, Dan. Now we have 8 left open for the year. And three different series represented thus far (including one of the Original books from Grossett & Dunlap and one of the Digests). I'm excited to see what other titles and series we end up with by the time we're through. :) 8)
Last day of the year for 2012... I guess we'll start up with Hardy Sleuth leading a discussion on Speed Times Five some time within the next week or so... and if anyone wants to fill in the other months, we still have 8 slots open. If needs be, I'm willing to double up to help fill some of the gaps...But I'd rather other forum members have a chance first if they're wanting to.....
Just as a reminder, we still have a number of months open for this year's book club, including March! I will plan to have a thread up for February (featuring The Shattered Helmet) soon- hopefully by the end of the week or so to give everyone a chance to read, reread or peruse through the book again.
I've got a thread up for February's book now. Anyone want to take on some of the other months? We still have quite a few open...
Anyone taking March? Lets put a deadline of February 25 for someone, besides those who have already signed up, to sign up for the March book.
Remember, this is open to everyone.
Sounds good. If no one signs up by then, then I guess one of us can re-up and take on two months if necessary. (But I'd certainly prefer all the other members to have a chance to host a month.) For our newer members, definitely feel free to jump in. :) 8)
Okay- I guess March is officially up for grabs for anyone who wants to take it, (including those who have already taken a month) especially since March 1 will be here this Friday.
So we're a week into March- does anyone want to review a book this month?
MacGyver did you still want to do The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook for March?
January- Hardy Sleuth Speed Times Five (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #173)
February- MacGyver The Shattered Helment (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52)

Well, since it doesn't look like anyone else is wanting to take this month, yeah- I can do that one. I'll put up a thread today if I can, if that's cool with everyone else. At least that will cover us through May.
So now we've got:
January- Hardy Sleuth Speed Times Five (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #173)
February- MacGyver The Shattered Helmet (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52)
March- MacGyver The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook
April-tomswift2002 Flesh And Blood (Casefiles #39)

Both tomswift2002 and I have already taken on two months apiece. Does anyone else want to grab an open month or maybe would someone like to double up as well? There are still six months unclaimed.
January- Hardy Sleuth Speed Times Five (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #173)
February- MacGyver The Shattered Helmet (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52)
March- MacGyver The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook
April-tomswift2002 Flesh And Blood (Casefiles #39)

Great! Thanks, Dinosaur Dan! :) 8)
Just as a reminder, we are set to move to Danger Unlimited soon for the book club as the calendar rolls over to May this week. :) 8) Thanks to Dinosaur Dan for hosting this one.
And while I'm doing reminders, don't forget that we still have 5 months open if anyone else wants to sign up to review a book. July, August, October, November and December are all available. We've already covered some of The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories series (#1-190) as well as books from the Casefiles and Supermysteries and even spin-off books like The Hardy Boys Handbook: Seven Stories of Survival.
There are still a number of other choices out there to review- some of the Clues Brothers books perhaps or the Secret Files series. There are the Undercover Brothers series and the original text version of The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories and other spin-off series and books like the Ultrathrillers and The Hardy Boys Detective Handbook and The Hardy Boys Ghost Stories, etc. as possibilities.
So jump in with your favorite book that hasn't been covered yet. Also, even if you've already done 1 month this year, you can grab another if no one else has signed up. Let's keep the ball rolling- there are still lots more mysteries to be reviewed. :) 8)
"Time Bomb"'s already been done, so from the Ultra Thrillers there's just "The Alien Factor" left if someone wanted to do that.
Good point. And I finally read both of the Ultrathrillers recently- it'd be nice to cover the second book too. But I've already done two months this year, so I want to let someone else have a chance to do one- hint, hint. Someone jump in here. :) 8)
Just a reminder- Dinosaur Dan is set to host our June Book Club thread- we'll be reviewing High Stakes, #29 in A Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Supermystery series. :) 8)
I just recently read this one myself, so I am definitely ready to dive in to talking about it.
I haven't seen a thread started yet by Dinosaur Dan for his June book, but this is a reminder that July is still open, so if anyone would like to suggest a book for July, go ahead, plus August is still open.
Thanks to tomswift2002 for putting up threads for June's and July's books.
So now the schedule stands as such:
January- Hardy Sleuth Speed Times Five (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #173)
February- MacGyver The Shattered Helmet (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52)
March- MacGyver The Hardy Boys Handbook: Seven Stories of Survival (British title: The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook)
April-tomswift2002 Flesh And Blood (Casefiles #39)
May- Dinosaur Dan Danger Unlimited (Casefiles #79)
June- Dinosaur Dan High Stakes (Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys Super Mystery #29)
July- tomswift2002 The Shore Road Mystery (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #6)
August-
September- tomswift2002 Stress Point (Casefiles #125)
October-
November-
December-
So there are still 4 months left open. And we particularly need someone to take on August as it will be here soon enough within the next few weeks. I am open to taking on more months if needs be, but I would certainly rather let someone else have a chance. There are still plenty of Hardy Boys series to choose from that haven't been represented yet- The Clues Brothers, Secret Files, Undercover Brothers, Adventures, the other book in the Ultrathrillers series, the Graphic Novels.......
Let's get some more great Hardy Boys titles on this list. :) 8)
(By the way, I can't recall- have we done any of the Graphic Novels on here before? I definitely think they can count if someone wants to do one of those.)

Thanks, Dan! You rock! And great book choice too. :) 8)
Wow- already we're here in September. The summer seems to have flown by so fast... (Though the weather hasn't quite settled into fall weather yet, so maybe that's why it doesn't quite feel like summer is gone.)
Anyway- just a reminder that Stress Point is our next scheduled book for this month and then we still have the last three months of the year up for the taking. Since tomswift2002 and Dinosaur Dan have already done three books each this year, I'll take on another month to help cover the whole year- but that still leaves two months. Anyone else want a crack at it?
Okay- I have an alternate book in mind for October, but I was thinking about tackling the other official trilogy in The Hardy Boys Casefiles- the Ring of Evil trilogy. If I cover the first one (#76 Tagged for Terror), would anyone else be willing to cover #77 Survival Run in November and #78 The Pacific Conspiracy in December? Sure, we can do the books in nonconsecutive months, I suppose, but I think it'd be better to do the trilogy consecutively if possible.
If anyone else is up for this plan, post to the thread and let me know. If I don't hear something positive on it by the end of the week or so, I'll go with my alternate book for October. Thanks.
Okay- haven't heard anything yet. I'd really love to do the Ring of Evil trilogy if someone will go in on it with me. If I don't hear something soon, I will go ahead with my other book for October though. (And thus, leave two more spaces open for the last two months of the year for anyone who wants to take them.)
Okay- since I haven't heard from anyone else, and tomorrow starts October, I will go ahead and take the October book. So here's the 2013 lineup.
January- Hardy Sleuth Speed Times Five (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #173)
February- MacGyver The Shattered Helmet (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52)
March- MacGyver The Hardy Boys Handbook: Seven Stories of Survival (British title: The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook)

July- tomswift2002 The Shore Road Mystery (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #6)
August- Dinosaur Dan Hot Wheels (Casefiles #91)
September- tomswift2002 Stress Point (Casefiles #125)
October- MacGyver Trick-or-Trouble (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #175)
November-
December-
The last two months of the year are open still. If someone is interested in hosting a month, please sign up with your choice of book. :) 8)
By the way, I will plan to post a thread for October's book within the next two weeks or so.
A very seasonal book. I love seeing all the candy corn on the front cover (I just bought six tubs of candy corn the other day!)
Yeah- this one is specifically set at Halloween and though I'm not a big fan of that holiday, I do enjoy this book pretty well- so I thought it'd be a fun one to do for this month. And candy corn is great! (I particularly love the caramel candy corn.) :) 8)
Just a reminder- there's about a week and a half left of October. I've been enjoying rereading Trick-Or-Trouble for this month's book. Anyone want to take on books for the last two months of this year?
Okay- November 1st. is this Friday!
One more call here for November's book and December's book. Anyone interested?
I can do yet another book if needs be, I suppose- but as I've said before, I don't want to take them all on. Part of the fun of this is the discussion from everyone about the books and the varied selection of book choices as everyone gets a chance to have their favorites spotlighted. Come on- who wants next? :) 8)
I can do Secret Files Hopping Mad for the upcoming month. :)
You're on Hardy Sleuth.
Awesome! :) 8) Thanks, Hardy Sleuth. Now if we can just have someone take on December, we'll be set for the rest of the year.
So here's the 2013 lineup thus far:
January- Hardy Sleuth Speed Times Five (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #173)
February- MacGyver The Shattered Helmet (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52)
March- MacGyver The Hardy Boys Handbook: Seven Stories of Survival (British title: The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook)

Well, as requested, if no one else takes Dec, I'll pinch hit (keeping with the baseball metaphors ;)) with #189
One False Step (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories) which is a grand slam mystery. While I'm not on here, I'll reread the book so regardless of whether or not someone else has the December book discussion, I won't be striking out because I'll be reading a cool mystery. ;D
Sounds like a home run to me. :) 8)
I suppose we can wait a few more days and see if anyone else wants to do it, but I'm thinking you can probably go forward with One False Step, Hardy Sleuth. (But just review the book- don't actually take one false step because I don't want you to fall and hurt yourself. ;) 1 Corinthians 10:12 could be the theme of that book.)

Well, we made it through 2013 for the book reviews! :) 8) Thanks to everyone who participated.
Here's the final list of books covered for 2013.
January- Hardy Sleuth Speed Times Five (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #173)
February- MacGyver The Shattered Helmet (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #52)
March- MacGyver The Hardy Boys Handbook: Seven Stories of Survival (British title: The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook)

October- MacGyver Trick-or-Trouble (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #175)
November- Hardy Sleuth Hopping Mad (The Hardy Boys: Secret Files #4)
December- Hardy Sleuth One False Step (The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories #189)
So we wound up covering 5 of The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories, 4 of The Hardy Boys Casefiles, 1 of The Nancy Drew & Hardy Boys Super Mystery ('88) books, 1 of The Hardy Boys: Secret Files and even 1 of the spinoff books. (The Hardy Boys Handbook: Seven Stories of Survival). Pretty nice mix!
And a particular thanks to everyone who stepped up to take on an extra month, given that typically we've only been having forum members do two months at most during the year.
So I guess this leads to the question- Do we want to continue this for next year? We're fast coming up on the new year- shall we get the 2014 Book Club thread going? :) 8)
