Title: Get a Hardy Boys.
Post by: SDLagent on August 09, 2008, 10:40:42 PM
Why your next UB should be a Hardy Boys.

This started in another thread (drift), and it was so funny I thought I'd make a whole new thread for it. This is the place where you can post your "UB vs. Hardy Boys ads", a spoof on "Get a Mac ads (http://www.apple.com/getamac/)".

Remember that this is all in fun, so don't get to carried away.

I'll start things of with:

Quote''Hi, I'm a Casefiles Frank.''

''And I'm a Undercover Brothers Frank''

''Oh, UB Frank, this is Callie, my girlfriend. Callie this is UB Frank''

Callie: ''Nice to to meet you UB Frank''

UB Frank: ''....duh...''

Callie: ''Ah, are you okay?''

Frank: ''Yeah, you don't look to good.''

On the same topic:

...if that was UB Frank! Yikes! He wouldn't have just walked away like that. LOL!

LOL. I remember that scene. That was a genuine Charlie's Angel, not those poseurs in the more recent movies ::)

"Hi, I'm a Casefiles Joe."

"And I'm an Undercover Brothers Joe."

"So, Undercover Joe, how do you like working for ATAC?"

"Shhhhh! [looks around furiously] Wellllll, since Frank's not around, I can admit my involvement and tell you that it's OFF THE HOOK!"

[Casefiles Joe thinks to himself, "Something's off the hook"]. "Riiiight. Well, see, Casefiles Frank and I work freelance."

"What? You do not!"

"Um, yeah...we do."

"Are you forgetting about that Circuitry organization?"

"You mean the Network?"

"Yeah! And what about that man with the yellow hat?"

[gives UB Joe a funny look] "I think you mean the Gray man."

"Oh. Right. It's just I've been doing some reading lately, so I guess that's where I mixed up the ideas."

"You look at Curious George books?"

"What? No! I don't read about cartoon monkeys! Who told you that?"

"Uh, you did..."

Hi I'm Casefile Joe

And I'm Undercover Brother Joe

Man, you're like, all sweaty. What happened?

Oh, man, I just got done with a trilogy.

A trilogy? I had a couple of those. What happened with you?

Me and Frank solved a couple of murders with our sweet gadgets. Didn't get to use my personal hovercraft/spacecraft/smoothie-machine though.

Oh, were the murders like connected to a hitman organization or something?

No, just a couple of, uh you know murders.

Wasn't there like a company, or large corporation or group of criminals or something?

No, just a couple of murders.

Oh, I guess uh, I guess that's cool. Just random people not really working together?

Yeah, why?

Just wondering. It took you a trilogy?

Well, I have to explain every little unimportant thought running through my head to the readers. Takes a lot of ink.

Oh, you talk to your readers?

Yeah. Don't you?

Not really. Three books, wow.

What?

Nothing thats, thats cool. They know everything you think?

Yeah.

Creepy.

LOL. Those are good, you guys ;D

HBWiki - Good use of Callie! Gives me an idea that someone should do Chet. But I guess that wouldn't really work, because is he different in the UBs?

negative_zone - I like the fact of bringing up the trilogy. "Sweet gadgets" lol, and the ending...creepy!

Hi I'm Casefiles Frank

And I'm UB Frank

So, you were like gonna show me how you get your uh, your missions?

Yeah. Check it out, its my Zbox.

Your, Z-, your what?

MY Zbox! Pretty sweet huh?

Kinda corny actually, but uh lets see a mission directive thingmabobber.

OK, let me just slip this CD in that reformats back to mission directions when I blink three times, spin around, and clap my hands behind my back.

What the ...? O...kay.

All right (pants) here we go.

Who's that guy?

That's Q, he never smiles.

Um, he's smiling right now.

What? Haha, that Q.T. You never know what to expect.

Q.T? Like the gas station? I thought it was Q?

Um, whatever, oh, here's our mission.

(Q on tv) "Three mimes were killed during karaoke night at a bar in Boston. The only clue is where the criminal slipped up and left his nylon shirt with what is obviously his name, "Brady", and the number 12 embroidered on the back. Your job, is to track down Brady using this toothpick that converts to a gps locator and mini HDTV, apprehend him, and force a confession. Good luck."

Cool huh?

Yeah...cool. I gotta go get, uh a haircut.

Wanna see a magic trick? I can make this pencil disappear.

Uh, no thanks.

LOL @ Fenton and Q/QT. You're really good at those, n_zone 8)

Too bad the Hardys don't have a pet in any of their previous series (well, that I know of). It could be ________ vs. Playback the Parrot :D

"Wimps! Wimps! Wimps!" What's with that, anyways? Even though it's really dumb, it sometimes makes me laugh.

Anyways, bringing in other characters would be fun. Maybe it's easier to do Frank & Joe though.

Chet: Hi, I'm Originals Chet Morton!

Brian: [vaguely looks around; suddenly realizes people are staring] Oh, I'm on. [roughly clears throat] Yeah. So. I'm Undercover Brothers Brian Conrad, and don't you forget it!

Chet: Very nice to meet you, chum-

Brian: [angrily] You calling me a bum?! You'll live to regret it, you...you big donut!

Chet: [brightens at the mention of food] Sorry I didn't bring any provisions with me, Brian. We can hop over to Aunt Gertrude's kitch-

Brian: Who in the name of Bayport, is Aunt "Gertrude"?!

Chet: Why, it's Frank and Joe's-

Brian: Ohh, you mean Trudy. Or was that, "Moody"? [starts to laugh hysterically at his own (pathetic) joke]

Chet: [slightly frowns] I assure you that Ms. Gertrude is a fine lady. She may be outspoken sometimes, but you don't seem to have a problem speaking your mind.

Brian: [rolls his eyes] Whatever, Chow. [slightly turns away and starts to flex his muscles]

Chet: [blinks; looks uncomfortable]

[silence]

Chet: [is about to speak, but is surprised when Brian does]

Brian: So how long have you known those punks, anyways?

Chet: My best chums? Well, let's see. I was 16 in 1927...[starts to silently calculate]

Brian: [stands and waits, oblivious to what the calculations indicate]

[suddenly stares at Chet in disbelief] Dude, you're like, wearing a suit!

Chet: [doesn't hear what Brian says; becomes a little confused] Should I include the years before they started sleuthing?

Brian: Sleuthing? If that's what you call "snooping"! [sneers] Franky is always creeping around my sister!

Chet: [suddenly looks crestfallen] I missed our 75th anniversary! Oh, what am I going to do?

Brian: [in a baby voice] Wah! Wah! Wah! Boo-hoo. [menancing] I'll give them something, alright...special delivery. [lifts fist] One right across the lip!

Chet: [is shocked; then becomes mad, and starts to walk towards Brian]

Brian: [continues to spit out threats and insults while moving his arms and legs in defiance]

Chet: [reaches Brian; standing in front of him, the normally jolly, good-natured chum retrieves a glove in his hand and in one fell swoop, slaps Brian across the face with it] How's that across the lip!!

*****

P.S. I realize I overdid it with the "[]". I guess I think too much in terms of script formatting :-\

Hi, I'm Casefiles Joe

And I'm UB Joe

So what's up? I haven't seen you since you ran away screaming after I scared you with that fake spider.

That was not funny! I had a traumatic childhood experience with spiders.

No you didn't.

How would you know?

Shouldn't we have had, like, the same childhood experiences?

Why?

Never mind. Oh cool, whats this?

This is a paperclip that can magnetically attract up to 50 pounds of metal. I use in class when I drop my pen. It's a shame about Susie Derkin's earring though. I think it was only like 3 stitches.

Wow. You can't just bend over?

Who are you? My mom? I do things the way I want to! Oh, got a text ... oh we got a new case. Someone just rearranged Jessica Simpson's shoe collection without asking. I gotta roll.

O-K. That was weird. Hey I wonder what this-OW!

Same childhood experiences...hmph. Well, for one of them Iola is gone :'(, and for the other she only exists as a piece of background when necessary.

Nice touch adding such a crucial case for UB Joe ;)

No, the UB's are ALTERNATE UNIVERSE STORIES, they are NOT PREQUELS TO THE ORIGINAL HARDY BOYS OR THE HARDY BOYS CASEFILES.
Title: Re: Get a Hardy Boys.
Post by: Olivia on August 21, 2008, 08:51:15 PM
Can you imagine if HB:UB was a prequel to the Casefiles?

-ATAC would be brought down somehow or shut down and basically, never be spoken of again (or it could be a big, bad dream ;))
-Suddenly Frank and Joe's involvement in cases is no longer a secret
-Aunt Gertrude changes her name to Trudy
-WARD disappears and the Assassins appear
-Iola lives and then Iola dies
-HB:UB (for lack of a better term) transfers from its juvenile tone to the more mature Casefiles

That actually sort of makes some sense :o

ATAC actually doesn't need to be spoken of again because it's suppose to be top secret, after all! (Then again, it doesn't mean they wouldn't let the readers in on it, or if someone from their past reappears...).

The only big factor would be the technological and media-related references (and some personality change, which makes sense because they get more mature). I mean besides that, am I missing something?

Am I cRaZy?

P.S. I don't agree or want it to be a prequel, I'm just throwing out how the possibility could work.
Title: Re: Get a Hardy Boys.
Post by: SDLagent on August 21, 2008, 08:54:05 PM
I can see thinking the UB is are prequel. At first I tried to fit it in as a prequel...but it just does NOT work!

For one thing, Trudy is called Gertrude in all other continuities, and for another she moves in with the Hardys in Graphic Novel, but in the first few Hardy Boys she doesn't live with them. And another thing, they move away from Elm and High, where they live for both the Original and Casefiles continuities. And evidence just keeps piling up...in the Casefiles it seems that Frank and Joe have had little or no experience working with crime fighting organizations.

As you can tell, like I said, I did try to fit the UB in there some how with the rest of The Hardy Boys. Sadly I came to the conclusion that it can't be done, since S&S seems to be ignoring cannon history all together, and in the process of doing so, long time HB fans.

Well, neither Frank and Joe's parents or Gertrude know about the boys involvement with the Network at first.

Well, you have to be living to die, so that point doesn't make much sense.

Well S&S can't help the tech part...things do change. (just like they did from the originals and the Casefiles)

As for the personality changes, I didn't mention it in my last post, but that's one of the biggest reasons why the UB is AU.

So you'd rather S&S had ignored history (like they did) and make an AU series, then them make a new series that fits in with the others?  :o

Well, neither Frank and Joe's parents or Gertrude know about the boys involvement with the Network at first.

But they do know about them solving mysteries/cases, don't they? I'm not 100% sure on this, because as I've said, I've only read a handful of the Casefiles. And the Network's presence in the Casefiles is different from the way ATAC is used in HB:UB.

Quote
Well, you have to be living to die, so that point doesn't make much sense.

But it's better then being killed off at first (Casefiles), and then suddenly reappearing (HB:UB). Not that the Casefiles would come before HB:UB, but still.

But they could mature. Especially Joe, after what happens in Dead on Target.

Yeah, I know it's a stretch, but I say it's still sorta possible. I think Joe can make the leap, but I'm not so sure about Frank.

Anyways, like I said, the technology/media stuff/personality are the biggest factors to disprove it, in my opinion.

Seriously, though, I started a post with how it was impossible for HB:UB to be a prequel, and then I ended up with a post about how I think it's almost possible ::)

Q (sounding tinny): And I'm Q!
Gray: So, Q, what do you do for the government?
Q: Sorry, I can't tell you, otherwise I would blow ATAC's cover.
Gray: Why would you blow ATAC's cover?  I mean I help out all the time and I don't blow my agencies cover.
Q: Well, the new policies setup by the Bush administration and before that the Clinton administration tell me that I must not reveal the presence of ATAC to anyone.
Gray: Uh?  Whatever!  We never had anything like that under the Bush administration or the Clinton adminstration.
Q: Whatever you say, Grandpa!

Continuing:

Gray: I've been cloned three times, how many times have you been cloned?
Q: Cloned?  They only to do that to sheep, moron.
Gray: Okay, since I've helped defeat those clones with the Hardy's I would say that I've done a lot more missions than you.
Q: You're mission is to investigate who is killing all the contestants in the World Series New Sausage Dogs Eating Contest.
Gray: A sausage eating contest?  My agency doesn't touch those.  We deal with terrorism, espionage, political assassinations, arms smuggling.
Q: I'm giving you a direct order.
Gray: Sorry, but my agency has a higher ranking than ATAC.  While we occassional run into street thugs, we avoid the crimes that the local police can solve.  So, I can't take orders from you.  Infact, I just sent an email to the President informing him of you mundane actions.
Q: You will investigate the World Series New Sausage Dogs Eating Contest as ordered.
Gray: Whatever!

True, in the Original series it does mention Aunt Gertrude moving in with the Hardy's in The Secret of The Old Mill, but she would move in for extended stays.  In the UB's, she's moved in and there is no if ands or buts about if she's going.  SHE'S IN AND SHE AIN'T GETTING OUT.

Look at the original text of #23 The Melted Coins, the boys have to get Aunt Gertrude at the train station because she had gone away to visit a family member, and now she was returning to stay for another long visit with her brother's family.

Chet (Original): At least I've been in on more cases with the Hardy's than you!
Chet (95): Don't say that or else you'll change your luck!
Chet (UB): Whose scaredy cat over here?
Chet (95): Who are you calling 'scaredy cat'?  I just don't like crossing black cats.
Chet (Original): I don't like black cats either.  Here, you want this chocolate bar?
Chet (UB): No way.  My personal trainer would have me skinned alive if I ate one of those.
Chet (95): When did you get a personal trainer?  I never had one in my youth?
Chet (Original): Neither did I.  Mom and Dad can't afford one with the high cost of running a farm and all my money's tied up in different projects.
Chet (UB): Whatever, Fatso's.  My dad's the president of a farm conglomerate.  (Turns away) See you later, losers.
Chet (Original): I should've bopped him one on the nose.
Chet (95): I think that might've been unlucky.

Tom: What's Chet 95? But yeah, UBs Chet is as different from normal Chet as UBs Frank and Joe from normal Frank and Joe.

Negative Zone: Actually, I was going to say loser but I thought that was going too far...:-X

Sorry.

More like a con man, you outlaw.

So am I like Sawyer from Lost then, or like the guy from Catch Me if You Can (I do look like Leonardo DiCaprio, remember?)  ;)

Haven't seen either of those...so...:-\

Actually, I was thinking about using a Santa Clause reference in my last "drama" thing. I think my 2nd post was a lot of random things strung together...oooh well.

Chet 95 is from the 1995 Hardy Boys TV series.  He only appeared in one episode, but he was always counting his luck.  Funny thing is, though, I think S&S must've sort of based the UB Chet on the actor who portrayed him in the show, since the 95 Chet was not as round as Gary Springer or any of the other actors who've portrayed Chet, or even just how Chet was written in the Originals and Casefiles.

Wasn't Chet written into the casefiles as more husky than just fat though?

Oh, I see Tom. I think it was because Chet 95 didn't introduce himself haha.

I remember that episode. That was extremely weird. He was like, "You guys are my friends, right?" and then Frank and Joe gave each other a look. How rude. Well, not completely.

Yeah, from the Casefiles I read it seems he wasn't as "jolly" if that's the right word.

I'm thinking those are nonconan since they explane a different way that Trudy gets her name than Huricane Joe. But why can't Trudy move out then back in, or the Hardys move back to maple?

The Hurricane Gertrude thing came after, I don't know why they ignored Graphic Novel #2. On the other hand they ignore every thing else so why not ignore the graphics too!

As for the non cannon comment...which Hardy continuity's cannon? Since there's at least eight this might take you awhile.

Most people consider the Grosset & Dunlap series to be Hardy Boys Canon.  Of course, there are debates about which book ends the canon.  It is pretty easy to say that from #1The Tower Treasure to #38 Mystery At Devil's Paw in their original and revised forms are canon, whereas a few people don't feel that #39 The Mystery of The Chinese Junk to #58 The Sting Of The Scorpion are canon, while the majority do.  And that includes Detective Handbook.  Then there are the people, like me, who consider the canon to extend to Digest #85 The Skyfire Puzzle.  Again, there are a few people who, with the 2005 publications by Grosset & Dunlap, say that canon goes to #66 The Vanishing Thieves in the Digest series.

I say it was 58 but when 59-66 came out in hard cover it changed to 66. Just my opinion. ;D

Funny thing is, when 59-66 came out in hardcover, that was the second time that they were released in hardcover.  Between 1979 and 1985, aside from the Super Sleuths! and Campfire Stories, all Wanderer Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew and Tom Swift (except #10 and 11 in the Tom Swift series) were released in both paperback and dustjacketed hardcover.  The hardcovers are harder to come by, since most of those were sold for library usage, even though a few collectors did buy the hardcovers.  Of all the books released during that time in hardcover, probably the scarcest to find is The Hardy Boys Handbook: Seven Stories of Survival.  From what other Hardy Boys scholars have found out, that book may've only gone through one printing in 1980 and then was sent out of print and was kept in print in paperback until 1985.  But even the paperback didn't have that many printings.

I say it goes until the last digest, but that's just me.

True, there are some people who consider it to go to the last Digest, but the majority of the Hardy fans consider the books written by the Stratemeyer Syndicate to be, at least, the official Hardy Boys, if not canon up to #85 The Skyfire Puzzle

My view is the classics go to 58 and the new blue spines of 59-66 I refer to as the extended classics. But I hear you guys saying conan and my view is the Conan goes to #190. :-\
