Title: Schedule for Book Club
Post by: hardygirl847 on April 16, 2010, 05:32:39 PM
WOW! It's April 16th already! Where is the time going??? It's cliche but true!

A few weeks ago, we talked about setting up a schedule for the book club discussions starting in May. I think it will be first come, first serve on this one. Insert the text as a quote or copy and paste with your name/username, book series, and book title next to the month of your choosing. The number of the book might be helpful too.

Example. April-hardygirl, Casefiles, Thick as Thieves #29

If you would like to participate in this, please do so by April 24th. The new discussion will start on this day. It will then give people time to get the May book choice.

May-
June-
July-
August-
September-
October-
November-
December-

PLEASE NOTE....For now, please pick one month. You will lead the discussion and pick your choice of series and book within that series. Please be aware of the types of books that come before you. I don't mind a few of the same in a row but not the whole year of the same.

If there are not enough months, please add to the list. If not enough people "sign up" then we will start the rotation over again OR do a trilogy for 3 months before doing a pick-your-month type schedule again.

Thanks! I can't wait to read all of your book choices! :)

Awesome choices! :) Now I have to hunt those down! :)

We still need a May! :)

Also, how should we deal with fillers? I think it's great you all chose a month you would like to do but in case we have gaps...how would you like to handle that? A trilogy wouldn't work for that. Hmm...it might be too early to tell but let me know if you have ideas.

We could always just all pick a second one if no one else jumps on the bandwagon.
Title: Re: Schedule for Book Club
Post by: hardygirl847 on April 18, 2010, 12:10:48 PM
Yeah that might be what we do. :)  I guess I can technically pick another one towards the end of the year. We'll give it a few more days but have a second choice in mind. We can always add new people to the list.

You should try to track down a Grosset & Dunlap copy or an Applewood edition of The Mystery of Cabin Island (1929) since, even though the whole storyline is the same, there are very different scenes at certain points and the 1966 version has some different characters that don't appear in the 1929 version.

Maybe I can do just that. I'd sure like to read the original version if I can. I've got some time to look for it though. :)

And that's the beauty of this schedule... :)

OK we still need a May folks! April 24th starts our discussion of Thick as Thieves. We will need to have May book choice ASAP. Go ahead and pick another month, book, etc. I guess we can go with the whole "you snooze, you lose" policy. :)

Well I think we should maybe remind people that even though these books will be the main books of the months, we will still be discussing the newer Hardy Boys that come out every other month.   So we won't be forgetting about the upcoming Lost Trilogy or Trouble At The Arcade/The Missing Mitt or Deadly Strategy or future books.

Of course but these books will have their own thread to discuss them on separately from the book club discussions. Thanks for the reminder though! :)

We still need a May people!

Well, people hardly talk about the Clues Brothers, and considering how the Secret Files are being released right now for the first time, it might be interesting to see how the two series compare.

When I filled in May I was sort of thinking about maybe doing October and leaving May open, but then I thought that I'd leave the book I would've picked for October, Dead Of Night, for someone else to pick, considering that I reviewed the book a few times already on this board.

Still waiting on my Clues Brothers book!  :-\

General Announcement/Request for All Book Club Members:

Please start the thread for discussing the book around the 15th of each month. Depending on where you live and what you have going on in life....it can be a few days before or after. If nothing is put up by the 20th, however, I will do it for you. :)

Hopefully we will have more success with the schedule than we did with our April book. Knowing what is coming next will hopefully help. Happy reading! :D

Just a friendly reminder to get your copies of  The Hardy Boys #2 The House on the Cliff ready to go. June is right around the corner! SDLagent will be leading the discussion. Feel free to read the OT or the RT version. Comparing them should stimulate even more conversation. :)

At least this is one of the books that was revised where both versions are still in print, with the 1927 version currently available from Applewood and the 1959 version available from Grosset & Dunlap.

Well, I think they are just a little different- apparently the original title was "The House on Cliff" and it turned out to be a bad "The Wizard of Oz" type parody... ;)

The 1959 version and the "flashlight version" are the same book inside. Both revised text. The original's from 1927.

Oh wow- I didn't even catch that earlier. Yeah, the 1927 is the original- I've got the Applewood reprint and the later "flashlight version"- but I'll probably try to read the original version for this round since I've read the revised one- although it was a long while ago...

Pretty soon MacGyver will start his discussion about Dead of Night Casefiles #80! Such a good choice for this month!

I am up next month with Trapped at Sea. I'm curious...will enough of you be able to participate? I have the book and need to read it. However, I worry that not a lot of you have it or have read it. There's still a little time to change it, if need be.

ALSO, next month we will start our sign up for 2011. Be on the lookout for that if you are interested in participating. All you have to do is choose a book (we like to mix the series around a bit) and then start the discussion in the middle of the month you have also chosen. First come, first serve.

We welcome new people as well!!!

How do you feel about including a trilogy in there somewhere? Maybe Jan-March or April to June? I have been itching to read Operation Phoenix or the other Casefile trilogy for some time now...We can think about it though. It would be something different...sorta. :)

Thanks! I saw your review! It was good! :) I am glad you have that one too. I have been waiting to read it for next month. I wasn't into digests before. I went from having maybe 20 Casefiles to 3 WHOLE shelves full of Hardy Boys books. My Casefile collection is complete, I have some digests, bluespines, GNs, UBs, and SuperMystery books. I'm a nut! :)

What do you think of the trilogy idea?
