Title: CALLING ALL NETWORK FANS!
Post by: tomswift2002 on August 06, 2008, 04:36:34 PM
How many of you prefer the Network over ATAC?   Personally, I do.

I wouldn't say I'm a "Network fan", but I do prefer it over ATAC, no question about it!

ROFL! I was thinking about posting something like this!

I haven't even read that many Casefiles, but it's sad that I can tell it's wayyy better than American Toads After Crazies!

Yes, the originals and the Digests. ;)

Umm... these arguments are too intense for me  ;) JKS

Anyway... I think the Network was awesome for the casefiles, and ATAC is good for the age group posted for the UB's, so I don't really have an opinion *shrugs*

Title: Re: CALLING ALL NETWORK FANS!
Post by: Olivia on August 09, 2008, 04:36:17 PM
The intention here isn't to offend anyone - it's just to have some discussion. I apologize if anyone thinks it's going too far. I know I did poke some fun at ATAC, but it wasn't to be mean.

I don't know, I find it kind of entertaining sometimes that we (generally) have two sides. It's interesting to see how we look at things differently, especially when we we talk about the different individual books/missions too.

On another thread I was talking about a parody of the HB:UB. But I even read parodies of the "regular" HB's too.
Title: Re: CALLING ALL NETWORK FANS!
Post by: NZone on August 09, 2008, 06:15:28 PM
One thing I have noticed, in the Network V. ATAC battleground, we almost never talk about the Network. Its either people bashing ATAC or people going "ATAC Rules"
Title: Re: CALLING ALL NETWORK FANS!
Post by: Olivia on August 09, 2008, 07:44:56 PM
Well, even if we had an in-depth discussion it wouldn't work because not everyone is familiar with the Network. On the other hand, most people on this board are familiar with ATAC.

Anyways, the only thread that has any sort of crossover discussion is under the poll. Otherwise, the threads are pretty much separate.

Title: Re: CALLING ALL NETWORK FANS!

Is that all the action they can put in the UB books?  Raking up leaves and talking?  Plus it gets pretty boring just moving around the grounds of one building.  What happened to the days where the Hardy's would go to different places of a town to investigate a crime?

I have several things to say about your post:

1) If you like ATAC what are you doing in this topic besides being rude?
2) You and capital I's don't seem to get along.
3) Over :o :o ??? smilely  :P :-[ 8) use
4) Asking you why you like junk is nothing like asking us why we like decent books.

Has anyone noticed that you can't really insult the Casefiles? Or there isn't really a solid ground to?

I mean, there may or may not be small aspects that you could do without or would want to change a little.

But in the UBs, there seems to be several large things that can be critiqued.

Just an observation, not trying to provoke a fight! Anyways, this is the Network thread.

No, because I am reading one right now, and I can't find anything to critique other than the fact that you don't understand what is going on because the story keeps changing. There is no continuity other than relationships to the hardy boys

-Casefile # 10
-Casefile # 25
-Highway Robbery (I forget it's number)
-Absoulute Zero (I forget it's number)

LOL. But then you have to pay for the shipping.

Actually, it's because they are used, not new so its value does sort of go down. And they probably want room in their warehouse or whatever. Plus all the costs of making it have already been covered so they already made their money.

But yeah...ha ha.

The ones that fans consider the "better" ones are a lot higher in cost, obviously.

That's because you didn't read the good books, before saying the UBs are better, please read at least 2 books from this list:
-Casefile # 10
-Casefile # 25
-Highway Robbery (I forget it's number)
-Absoulute Zero (I forget it's number)

Highway Robbery is #41 in the series, while Absolute Zero is #121.

Take some advice from a guy who has read all 127, if you want to read a really good starter book for the series, read Thick As Thieves (Joe goes to Criminal Convention to help pull off the heist of the century) or Disaster For Hire (Fenton Hardy gets arrested for Blackmail and Murder, and the Hardys have to chase after an arsonist), or another book from between volume 1 & 66.

Altough I haven't read all the casefiles, I have read read a lot, and can tell you right off the bat if you are going to read Thick As Thieves you need to read the Crowning Terror first. I didn't and part of the Crowning Terror was spoiled for me.

Also, to save you grief, do NOT read Countdown To Terror before Trouble In The Pipeline. Once again, altough I haven't read Trouble In Pipeline I already know the bad guy.

Lastly, read Dead On Target before Line Of Fire, you'll thank me later.

Actually I'm still missing a few Casefiles.  I actually got into the Casefiles back in 1995, right near the end of the series, and by that point, in 95, a lot of the early Casefiles had gone out of print.  But thanks to the interlibrary loan program at the local library I was able to read every book in the series.

As for the UB's, I do have all of them, but they are more or less collectibles since eventually the UB"s will be discontinued and sent out of print and then it will be tricky to get all the books in 'new' condition.

Yes and no. I'm assuming we're just talking about basic/general channels so I guess they are edited, but at the same time, if it's on late at night I don't think they are.

But over the years they are putting on movies earlier and earlier with less/no editing or it seems that way.

Title: Re: CALLING ALL NETWORK FANS!
Post by: tomswift2002 on November 03, 2008, 10:02:38 AM
So, a lot of times with movies that were released in theaters with an R rating, if you see them on TV, you'll notice that if, say language in one scene was a problem, a lot of times that scene will be completely removed from the film if it does not contribute that much to the story, but if it does, then a lot of times the studios will tell the stations to air it between 11 p.m. and 4 a.m., or the studios will get the actors to, for TV broadcast, re-record the lines in those scenes with less offensive language.

I know that in the film Happy Gilmore, whenever it is aired on TV, a lot of the film is redubbed so that stations can air it at 6, 7, 8 o'clock in the evening. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116483/alternateversions)

I know that I've bought a few DVD's that will say that they are rated "G" or "PG" and when I've gone through the cash they'll pop up asking whether I'm 18 or older.

Last November I remember buying Volume 3 of Disney's Ducktales, the old 1980's cartoon, and when I went through the cash, even the cashier was surprised at this, but up popped "Are you 18 or older?"  So, I guess that even for Ducktales you need to be an adult in order to see those DVD's, even though the DVD's are in the Children/Family area of the electronics department at Wal-Mart.

Well I was justing reading yesterday on a news website that the old 1974-1983 TV series, Little House On The Prairie is just about to be released in the Netherlands, and over there, because Universal wasn't willing to pay the thousands, possible millions of dollars, for testers from the country's film board view every episode to give each season a rating; so in the Netherlands Little House On The Prairie is going to be getting an 'R/M/18+' (or whatever the rating is for 18 or older) on every season set.

Completely different series.  Little Mosque On The Prairie is still being produced by the CBC, whereas Little House On The Prairie wrapped production in 1983.  And it is the 1974-1983 series that is being rated R in the Netherlands.
