New Year's Evil
Published: November 1991

I'm currently reading this book.  I was trying to read it back around New Year's to try to tie into New Year's, but I wasn't able to.

Anyway the Hardy's and Nancy are in Quebec City for New Year's.  The events take place between December 27 and January 1.  Someone is messing up a TV Movie shoot and Bess is falling in love with the main actor.  Meanwhile, one of the stunt driver's in the movie, who will also be taking part in the Winter Carnival that starts in 6 weeks, is murdered while shooting a commercial for the Carnival.  Plus the still photographer for the movie has gone missing.

One thing with this book is that the back cover states that the Hardy's are in Quebec for the Winter Carnival.  This is an error, as at New Year's, the Winter Carnival is still over a month away (it usually takes place in very late January-early February).

So I've been reading this book over the past couple of days.  Its interesting how the author has Joe and Bess in that friendship relationship where they are friends, (but unlike Nancy and Frank who acknowledge that they both find each other attractive and would probably be dating if they were not already in relationships with Ned and Callie) but they also seem to be attracted to each other, but they don't say it or acknowledge it.  That's an interesting characteristic that I think is missing in the newer books, possible due to the boys not having girlfriends.

MacGyver

The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries show seemed to do this too in the 2 part episode "The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Meet Dracula".  :) 8)

So I just finished New Year's Evil today.  It was a pretty good book, with a couple of different plots.  Of course the different crimes didn't end up being all done by a gang of one, as there was one guy working all by himself on a few of the crimes, and then 4 other crooks working on another crime.  7 out of 10.
