Title: Mr. Pizza Forum Upgrade
Post by: SkyWarp on July 18, 2009, 08:19:47 PM
I have upgrade to the latest version of SMF.  Of course, in the process the individual themes we have will not work with the current version and even the default theme is missing some images.

I hope to get the default theme images remedied quickly and each of the other themes rebuilt soon.

Thanks for your patience.

Most of the themes are now working correctly, with the exception of a few images.  The fonts in a few places may lookd different than before as well, but for now, I don't think I am going to take the time to remedy each one of them.

Again, if you notice anything out of the ordinary, please let me know.

I am already aware of the images behind the far right menu items are missing on many pages.  (ie, logout, mark as read, etc).

Yeah, when I logged-on today, I noticed the text looked different and smaller.

Yes, but Ithought I would let others know just in case.

FYI to everyone: I do plan on remedying the fonts.  I just haven't had time yet.

A significant update to the forum will take place in the coming weeks (hopefully before the end of the year).

The message boards may be down for several hours or perhaps a day or two in the first phase of this planned update.

All themes as you currently see them will be gone and a new default theme will be used until after a second phase of the planned upgrade is finalized.  During this second phase, the forum (as well as the entire web site) may be down for 1-3 days.

I plan to give a heads up at least one day before planned upgrades and changes in phase 2.  Phase 1 may not have any prior notices given

As this new version of the software is a significant change, it may be some time before I am able to properly build a new theme to match the web site, however, I believe all the changes that will be made will be well worth the effort.

The forum upgrade (phase 1) has been finished.

As always, if you find any bugs, please pass them along so they can be addressed.  Although we are not using "BETA" software anymore, this is still a Pre-release version of the software, so their could still be some bugs.

This just the first of many web site upgrades we hope to finalize before the end of the year!  Stay tuned for more information.

Nice.  Although it'll be nice when you get some of the borders back online like the Casefiles or Ultra Thrillers borders.

Not to give too much away, but all that will be gone as we know.  In fact, everything you see on the main site will be gone as we know it.  Woops, maybe that was too much too soon.  :)

The new forum looks great SkyWarp - nice and clean. Looking forward to the redesign of main site!

Well, it has all come together a little bit sooner than originally planned.  The new forum and its integration into the new site design is finalized.  Having multiple themes that incorporate various hardy boys series is not planned for the near future.  However, it is not out of the question for the future.

I have enabled other default themes as well, in case you prefer one of the older styles, but as I said above, those currently are not integrated with the main website design.

WOW!! I work in web design all the time.. I just want to tell SkyWarp this is the best work I HAVE EVER seen. And I love the adsense ads. Now.. Are they integrated into the posting too. Thats something you should consider!

Already considered, but have decided against it for now.  Digging through someone else's code is not always that easy.  But I am pretty sure there are special mods and ad-ins already built for such a thing with this forum software, so perhaps it wouldn't be all that hard.

Yeah, SkyWarp, I actually will look into it for you.. But I probably won't be back full-time posting on this forum again... I am working on some sites right now....

I'll see what I can find!

Hey SkyWarp,

Just Wondering.. Did you use a template for some of the site/forum design. Or did you use any resources. Just looking around for my site. If its a trade secret thats ok...

Thanks,

Bozonessinc

I created it from scratch, however, it is based upon a word press template I had seen once.  Not sure where I saw the word press template, but if I come across it again, I'll let you know.

Hello SkyWarp,

Thanks. I wish you luck with your adsense adventure. I don't remember if you ever had adsense on the site before. I have one tip if you decide to put adsense inside of the posts. You should have "Login to remove ads".

Skywarp,

It's awfully strange in Google Chrome...

The whole site is messed up.. At least the forum parts... Ok?

Download Google Chrome and Check it

Yeah, I have all major browsers already downloaded.  The Chrome (and Safari as well as it is based on the same engine) thing is very odd indeed.  Not sure what could be causing that.

I  use Opera, but when I read this, I clicked on Chrome, to see what you were talking about. Looks fine to me.

In Chrome and Safari, some posts have the signature area and report to moderator links pushed up to the right of the text of the post instead of at the bottom of the post.  It isn't always there, but on the longer posts it is most evident.

Chrome has had a fast turnover rate of new versions and some things are changing quite frequently, especially the Developer's version.  It can be tough to stay on top of such changes (even if related to safari) when a piece of software such as SMF is on a 1 to 3 year building cycle.

I'm thinking on installing the Chrome OS, on a virtual box. I'll check-out the site if I do.

BTW, I like your avatar, Bones.

And just as soon as I updated to the latest release candidate, the final version of the 2.0 software is released.  So, I updated the forum twice in the same day.  As usual, please let me know if anything seems out of the ordinary.

I'll have to look into that.
