Thank you SDLagent and MacGyver.

All I have based my dislike or whatever is on the 70s show (although I kinda liked Pamela Sue Martin) and a few super mysteries. I guess I will give Nancy a fair chance before completely disregarding her. After all, she DOES get involved with my two fave guys...I will definitely take those into consideration the next time I stop at the library. Thanks again! :)
I'm not on here as much or I just come on for a few moments. So I trying to keep up with posts. Sorry for being MIA. I've been off on a mission with Frank and Joe! :)

Sure, no problem.
As far as Nancy being characterized as interested in Frank, I think that's mainly been relegated to The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries show and then later on from there, The Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys Supermysteries series. (And even within that series, Nancy and Frank come to an empasse where they both decide that they are committed to their significant others. [See "The Last Resort"]. Nancy loves Ned and Frank loves Callie.)
I don't know if the Nancy/Frank thing is really explored in any of their other meetings. (i.e. the Super Sleuths books, the Camp Fire stories, the Undercover Brothers/Girl Detective Supermysteries series or the '90s TV series.)
But it is worth noting that Joe and Bess also seem to have a slight relationship possibility going on in both the '70s show and in the '88 Supermysteries series. (But theirs is much more subdued than Nancy and Frank.)

In the Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys Super Mystery '07 series, Frank and Nancy do seem to be interested in each other, but nothing much has happened between them so far.

MacGyver

Okay, so that tradition continues then. As long as they stay within the boundaries and I'm sure they will. Because I really don't want to read some big subplot about Ned coming after Frank to beat him up for hitting on his girl. lol ;D

In The Last Resort you sort of see Ned and Frank heading down that road at one point.  But then you also have to remember that Ned of the Nancy Drew Files is a different from the Ned of the Original Nancy Drew continuity and Girl Detective, since the Ned of the Files did dump Nancy and get engaged to a different woman in that series.  And Ned wasn't Nancy's boyfriend in the Nancy Drew On Campus series.

Well Nancy would have to look out for for me because she can NOT have Frank!! lol I say that half seriously...:) But really, I kind of liked Parker and Pamela. Maybe it was more the actors rather than the characters. I prefer Ned with Nancy and Frank with Callie though. I think my opinion is a little tainted by reading fan fiction where Frank is with Nancy. If the fan fic is written really well I can overlook it but it still bugs me. To me Frank will always be with Callie.

As for Joe and Bess in the 70s show, I could have seen that. I never really got George but Bess would have been cute with Joe. As you can see I am not as picky about who Joe is with. I'm not always sure he is either. HEHE No I love Joe but he does have a wandering eye at times.

(I'm kind of joking here) but is it possible that you prefer Frank/Callie because Nancy is more of a threat? lol.

BTW, I kind of understand why you're not a complete Nancy fan. A lot of times, I find some of the stories boring. I'm not sure where I became a fan, but it must have been somewhere in the Files and/or the early 100's in the regular series. Or more likely, the Supermysteries ('88) as I really like it when the three of them team up as it kind of goes to a different level.

I also only like PSM's portrayal.

No, you might be right about Nancy being a threat. It's probably because I have SEEN her with Frank (well PSM with Parker) and Callie wasn't a love interest in the show. I don't know really....I don't like when she takes up more of a story than the boys. I like some of their Super Mysteries as long as it doesn't become Nancy......and those cute Hardy boys.

It's a very weird thing I've always felt since I started reading the HBs when I was 12. Maybe it's my inner tween still feeling that way. Haha! It's silly but whatever. :p I just want Frank to be happy...fictional or not. hehe

I have to give Nancy a few more chances before completely writing her off. There are some fan fic writers that write her well and I like her in some stories. Often, she's written in as Frank's love interest but not having a huge role in the story.

I liked Pamela Sue Martin's portrayal too...much more than the new girl that they had.

It seems it's the female fans who have the biggest problem with Nancy "taking over".

hardygirl847

I can agree with that. Nancy adds more a female character for the male population. I'll keep with my boys though. You all can have Nancy.  8)

Thanks for your response!

And regarding the bold statement above, I know they do that with the '88 Supermysteries because it's actually a little more based on ND since the stories were created that way. I'm guessing they were just focusing more on the female demographic at the time and that ND Files were selling really well. (I know there are tons of female HBs fans, but I think ND was really popular and people tend to think female in a book = good present for female, not to mention, the cliche that girls read more).

Also, since the stories are just about divided equally between ND and HBs, it might seem like she's in it more or has more of a basis because (just a random example to demonstrate) Nancy as one person would have 50% of the book, while Frank and Joe have, say, about 25% each.

I'm not saying that's all accurate necessarily, but some rough conclusions I've come to.
