Title: Book Availability

Great, Yes, To add to this, the UB's would be good because they are easy to find. Just go to your local coles or book, they should have them

My local Coles has the 2 copies of the last 4 Undercover Brothers books, and 1 copy of Extreme Danger.  Whereas I've only seen 1 UB book at another bookstore in the city.

I think they just don't order enough, they only order what they think will sell, so if its still there, it did not sell~!!

And after a couple of months when their shelf get full, they have to send the books back to the publisher, so that they have more room for more books.

Yeah, and its just a little mall outlet so, I mean they don't even have much hardy boys at the local coles. If I go to Chapters outta town they have them!

Yeah, we just have a small bookstore in our mall and it only has about two Hardy Boys books a month. :'(

The bookstores around here usually have about two copies of each UB, but may be missing some because they are earlier numbers or something. They also have a few Originals and Digests (not many).

Absolutely no GNs though!
Title: Re: Book Availability
Post by: FrankJoeATAC on October 18, 2008, 10:01:52 PM
Neither does ours, we have to get all of our GNs from the library.
Title: Re: Book Availability
Post by: JoeHardyRocks on October 18, 2008, 10:02:40 PM
And our library doesn't have 'The Deadliest Stunt' or any of the ones after that. :'(
Title: Re: Book Availability
Post by: Olivia on October 18, 2008, 10:16:04 PM
My library's actually missing some of the earlier GNs as opposed to the newer ones.

And I don't buy anything, I always get it from the library. Except I have the first 8 UBs because I got them for $14.
Title: Re: Book Availability
Post by: FrankJoeATAC on October 18, 2008, 10:17:25 PM
That's a good deal, because I've seen GNs go for about 14.00 for just one.

I buy all the Hardy Boys novels that come out, plus the graphics. I have the novels on pre-order up to ''Galaxy X''. I haven't ordered ''Shhhhhh!'' yet though.

It seems that nobody in my nigborhood likes the UBs, I seen people read the Casefiles but NEAVER the UBs. maybe it's the fact that in used book stores you can get casefiles for a doller, or maybe it's that....UBs COST 9 (BLEEPING) DOLLERS!

Wow. I've seen afew used UBs and they are like $2.50. Unless you mean GN witch are more expensive, like $3-4ish. But I don't know any HB that should be $9 used.

And at used bookstore you can usually get used copies of the original Hardy Boys for anywhere from $2 - $8 dollars a book, and the books are hardcover, which means that people are paying an extra dollar new for a paperback book just so that they can have it in..."new" condition?????  Yeah, that makes a lot of sense?

Of course I know that some brick-and-mortar used bookstore base their prices on internet prices at abebooks.com, Barnes and Nobles and up here in Canada, Chapters.ca used section to see what the going price is for original Hardy Boys as 1962 PC's, Revised PC's, and of course, Dustjacket edition without the Dustjacket.

As I've said in the past, the only Graphic Novel that my local Coles ever had on their shelves was Ocean Of Osyria back in March-June 2005, and then they never got in Identity Crisis, so I've had to order the GN's ever since.  And recently I've received some coupons for the Chapters website, so I tended to order all the upcoming Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers books, (except Galaxy X, since I'm waiting to see if they announce the other books in the trilogy before ordering, since if they do, I'll order all three at once) at once, plus with Chapters.ca, whether you are ordering at the kiosk in store, or online, if you order a minimum of $40 dollars worth of stuff ($40 before tax), shipping is free to your home!

Of course, I still go to the brick-and-mortar Coles for my Star Trek books.  And pretty soon I'll be picking up Star Trek Destiny Book 2 by David Mack at that store.

I ment that the price of the UBs in Chapters is 9 dollers, the price of casefiles in used book stores is lower. Of corse I have reserved all the paperback Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books at the nearest used book store, so I get a lot of books!  ;D

Sometimes on used book sites if onlw a few people have them then they kind of fix the prices on them. For example I got Nightwing Hunt for Orcal at a used book store for $7.50 when it was $35.00 online!

The GN's are more because of the ink used? Color ink?

Or they just feel thicker because of that huge coat of ink. Considering they are spending money on the ink.. That explains it.. Must have long lasting ink. I would take about 3 cartridges to finish one book. Thats 75 dollars per book. How do they do it so cheap?
Title: Re: Book Availability

A little less than 3 but they buy in bulk and save a ton of money.

Don't forget that for each book run Papercutz would print up thousands of copies of the book, so they would be able to spread the cost out over the books.  Plus, you should also remember that the printers that most people have at home pale in comparison to the printers that newspapers and book manufacturers use.  Plus, with book printers, who says that the book printers use bubble jet or laser printers when they may use printers similar to newspaper printers?

I never thought about it that way, But, I guess they would have a 100,000 dollar printer that would take up less ink then even the best laser printers that alot of businesses have. Thanks tomswift for the enlightenment!

You mean:

I'm very lucky. I neaver hear much people in my area talk about the UBs. The bluespines and casefiles are a diffrent matter, luckly. As I said before, the UBs are not popular at all! Everyone I asked, only knew about the Bluespines, or Casefiles.

And at the one book store that does have the UBs no one buys them, but they DO buy the ND:GD. I'm pertty sure the UBs killed off intrest in the Hardy Boys for alot of people. It could also that the last digests warn't selling well, but I doubt that. when there were still digests in stores, I had an impossible time getting one, yet now with only the UBs in stores, no one buys them, at least not in my hugely populated area.

Wrong Coles.  The Coles store that is up here in Canada is owned by the Chapters-Indigo book chain.

Here's the company's website on its history along with the wikipedia article on Chapters.

Kids in the age group that the UBs are aimed at probably enjoy them. But you old men and women in your rocking chairs are are looking too hard at the story and therefore can not enjoy a good book.
