Title: Hardy Boys BREAK UP
Post by: hardygirl847 on March 09, 2011, 11:43:05 AM
So I got Break up a week early!! I was soooooooooo excited but I'm on the fence now that I've read it.

Has anyone else read it yet? Or am I just the lucky one that got it first but has to wait for awhile before I can discuss it? :)

I didn't pre-order it so I guess I will have to wait a little bit longer for it to come to stores. I guess it should be here by next Tuesday though. :)

Hey! So I went to Books-A-Million tonight and it turns out they did have a copy of it already after all! So I've got my copy of The Hardy Boys: The New Casefiles #2 -Break-Up! now and hope to read it soon. :)

Mac,

Have you read it YET?!! Maybe I should reread it before we discuss it. I was tired when I read it the first time. It might be a day or two before I can come back...So please use that time wisely to read it! LOL :)

Anyone besides hardygirl847 and myself read this graphic novel yet? It's a pretty good one- and it left me excited for the conclusion to this story arc. :)

As I mentioned in another thread, I have not. I did per-order it, though, so I expect to receive it soon.

While Mac and I agree on some parts, I still feel like it is misleading. I'm interested in what you think Spencer after you read it. I'm surprised you haven't received it yet.

I'm not sure I'll ever get a chance to read it. :( It may or may not come in at my library, even though Crawling with Zombies was there... :'(

AlwaysaJoeFan,

I guess the question is...how much do you like the Hardys? lol It's a GREAT book to have but you will need to buy Nancy's next one in August to complete the story.

Keep in mind, also, that this book has a theme we really haven't seen before....the boys fighting more than ever.

So yeah I definitely think it's worth having. But then again, I am biased lol and collect as many as I can. :)

I got the hardcover and it's awesome! I love the quality.

Oh, ya have to?  :-\ I guess I probably would, just for the Hardy's though. ;)

Fighting how?

I try to, but finances can be against me.  ::)

I love hardcover books. I don't really like it when they have the jacket around them, though. Like Nancy Werlin's book Locked Inside, the books with the shiny hardcovers are more my thing.  :)

I've been on this forum for I don't even know how long and can't figure out how to do that with the quotes...so I'm just going to try and respond to those questions. :)

1. Yes, Together with the Hardys (ND 3rd book) comes out in August and will continue the story. Both Crawling with Zombies and Break Up hint at a trip to River Heights. So, they are leading up to that for sure.

2. They are fighting mostly by disagreeing. No real hand to hand combat or anything else. They are basically getting under each other's skins and annoying the crud out of each other. I don't want to say too much. :)

3. Money is hard...I totally know. Save for the ones that you want the most. Or buy them after they come out online from an outside seller. It might be cheaper.

4. This is a hardcover just like you described. No dust jacket or anything...just very smooth and shiny. :) It's really awesome actually. I have CWZ in paperback and Break Up in hardcover. Not sure which one I will get for the crossover though.

2. There is at least some physical combat to a degree- but no, they don't punch each other's lights out or anything.

3. Don't forget to check your local library! And if they don't have it, tell them to order them! And of course, there's always the option of skulking around the comic book store or local Barnes and Noble/Books-A-Million (seems I've seen the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew graphic novels at both with this New Casefiles series now) and just read it at the store without buying it. ;D

2. Okay- then I'll just leave out the part about them battling to the death in a caged arena using mixed martial arts with John Kreese egging them on. ;)

I would suggest going to Barnes & Noble for that or Books-A-Million. Neither store seems to mind too much if their customers do just that. (Mainly because they're hoping they'll buy some coffee and snacks instead. ;D)

Read Break-Up today. I don't know what you guys think of it (I haven't read the posts in this thread, yet) but I was disappointed. I found it hard to believe that Frank and Joe would just suddenly be at each other's throats. I know they had a few disagreements in the last title but it still felt abrupt to me. In that one their disagreements seemed easier to believe but, in my opinion, were overdone in this title. But maybe that's why it was specifically mentioned that an unusual amount of time - about a month - had passed between Break-Up and Frank and Joe's last ATAC mission. They were cooped-up together for a month with nothing to do (by Hardy standards, anyway) so perhaps cabin fever contributed to their already strained relationship.

And this graphic novel didn't live-up to it's name. At the end of the story Frank and Joe, despite their differences, were still working together which was disappointing. I know I just complained about the boys' fighting but it's not the fighting or the would-be "break-up" I'm against, it's how rushed and unnatural it seems. Sort of anticlimactic considering this was supposed to be "the end of the Hardy boys."

There were some highlights, though - like the use of Chet and even newer chums like Brian and Belinda. I thought it was sort of weird that Frank seemed scared of Brian, though, considering he's put the big guy in his place a few times in this series.  I also liked when Frank said something along the lines that he and Joe had to work together because they're the Hardy boys. It was a cool quote and it showed that no matter how petty Frank (and Joe) seemed,  he realizes how important their partnership is.

So, Break-Up wasn't as good as Crawling with Zombies but it wasn't bad and this series certainly shows promise. I just hope we get more subtle scripts and more interesting plots than sabotage on a reality TV series - a premise that has been unbelievably overused in the world of the Undercover Brothers.

I don't think so. ::) Not every book has that in it. The Lost Trilogy didn't. That felt really close to the Casefiles to me. ;D

You're talking about the reality TV plot, right? Yeah, not every has that in it but a heck of a lot do! I think there's been at least eight in the Undercover Brothers novel series and at least two in the graphic novel series.

*Silently noting that adding asterisks means that technically you're not actually saying anything and not actually exactly adding to the conversation, thus fulfilling the previous mandate of silence.* ;D

SDLagent,

I have a husband that tells jokes all the time...Some are funny, some make me roll my eyes, and some are just I dunno. lol But it's hard to convey online especially when we don't know you in real life. So while I can take a joke (because frankly, I have to sometimes lol), it's hard to tell sometimes.

Hopefully we can all move on. This thread is about the Break Up issue anyways...

Which is why I wanna ask...do we have a better synopsis for the next graphic novel, Together With the Hardys???

Mac,

Lame and funny can coexist. :)

Actually more often than not, lame and funny do coexist.
