Post by: SkyWarp on March 03, 2008, 05:26:08 PM
No cover yet, but the names on these graphic novels get stranger and stranger all the time.

Is this going to be a countdown of the top eight Graphic novels, or a plot similar to the Undercover Brothers novel "Top Ten Ways To Die"?

Funny, Tom that's exactly what I thought of when I saw the name. Hmm, interesting...

And let's just hope that the story doesn't revolve around anymore reality shows.  That plot has been overused not just in the graphic novels, but in the regular Undercover Brothers series.  Plus, in February 2004 S&S published Warehouse Rumble in the Digest series and it was based on the reality series craze of 2001-2004.

According to the list of titles in the front of Graphic Novel #13 and the preview of #14 in the back, the name this book has been changed from ''Haley Danelle's Top Eight!'' to ''Haley Danelle's Best Eight''. Personally I think 'Top' sounds better in the title but that's just me.

I read the plot and the book is suspost to not have ATAC in it. I gess you guys got your wish. Hmmm I wonder if Scott Lobdell reads our forum?  :D

I think Scott Lobdell is probably an old time Hardy Boys fan and was probably getting tired of writing just ATAC missions.

Scott Lobdell has said before that he read The Hardy Boys as a kid, and I think, I it wasn't for S&S, he would write even more non-S&S stories. In an interview he actually said while he does like ATAC, he also likes stumbling across cases.

From what I hear they didn't pick him, he picked them. Apparently when he heard about the idea of a Hardy Boys comic book/graphic novel series, he asked for the job!

Papercutz new Editorial Assistant Michael Petranek says this about ''Haley Danelle's Top Eight'' (yes, apparently it is ''Top'' not ''Best''  ::))

Warning: Spoilers Follow

Quote
Hitting bookstores soon will be the Hardy Boys volume 14: "Haley Danelle's Top Eight."  It's a great story that deals with what I'm doing right now: participating in an online social network!  Frank and Joe run into one particularly clever villain who is not your average run-of-the-mill bad guy.  Or should I say, bad gal?  I'm not gonna give up any spoilers here, so I'll leave it at that!

The Coles in my area only got in The Ocean of Osyria back in 2005, otherwise they don't get any of the new graphic's for the shelves.

I just received Haley Danelle's Best Eight today.  Not as good as The Opposite Numbers but still it was better than most graphic's since, aside from some grumbling from the boys (just like they did in A Hardy Day's Night) about not having ATAC technology, there was no mention of ATAC.

Rating: B-

Don't forget that this series relies very heavily on the Japanese Anime type of drawing.  If you remember the TV series Sailor Moon, a lot of the characters looked like they weren't much older than 17/18, even though characters like Darien were suppose to be in their early to mid 20's.

You have a point but I never watched much anime.
Ive only seen:
Transformers: Energon
Teen Titans (1/2 anime, 1/2 triditional Bruce Tim)
Batman Gotham Knight
I plan to see
Speed Racer
Megaman NT Warior

I still think they are fish!

Do they look younger then Frank and Joe? Also do we find out Frank and Joe's age in this one?

Same here. I'm fairly certain that all the CFs disappeared 10 years ago from all my libraries. Probably not too soon after they stopped publishing them.

Okay, they do have the Originals, a few Digests, and the Graphic Novels. But whatev.

Once I went to a library and they had about 40 casefiles. Unfortunately that was the first time I had heard of the casefiles so I only read about 15 of them.

You also have to remember that aside from the first 10 Casefiles, the entire Casefiles series was issued in paperback.  So it may be that over the course of the past 5+ years libraries have found that the Casefile books have just started falling to pieces and have had to throw the books out because there were pages or whole chapters missing and no easy way to get new copies of the books.  Or the libraries have sold off their collections of Casefiles book by book, since as sometimes a book will get to the point where the library feels that it doesn't have the resources to keep repairing it, but the all the pages are there so they'll discard it and put it in their sale areas.

I agree the kids' age is very strange. They're soppused to be in high school, but they're way smaller then the Hardy boys, and Frank even calls Haley, "little girl" at one point. Very strange.
