For the past two years we have been reading a book a month.  New members are welcome to join in.

Sign-up here for what month you'd like to lead the discussion.  At first we'll start off with one month per person.  If we find later on that there are months that no one's signed-up for then we may let people who have already signed up a chance to lead in another month.

And please remember to put your forum name, the book title and what series (Grosset & Dunlap Mystery Stories, Simon & Schuster Mystery Stories, Casefiles, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys SuperMystery'88, Hardy Boys and Tom Swift Ultra Thriller, Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers, Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers Super Mystery, Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Super Mystery'07, Graphic Novel, Clues Brothers, Secret Files, Be A Detective, Super Sleuths!...I don't think I forgot any series---and Hardy Boys Adventures doesn't count because it's not out yet!)

January -
February -
March -
April - tomswift2002 Final Gambit (Hardy Boys Casefiles #62)
May -

Looks like for most of the first quarter of 2012 we'll be visiting the Casefiles universe.

I wonder what the rest of the year is going to be lik!

Any one up to taking one of the months between May and December?  If no one else takes a month by December 1st, then we'll open it up for people who have already selected a month.

Just a bump for this thread- a few more days in November and by Thursday, December will be here!
Any other takers for next year? We still have 7 months open- and so far we have mainly Hardy Boys books from the Casefiles universe- which is certainly cool - and the lone entry from the Undercover Brothers universe (yeah- I'm finally going there- lol ;D).
Maybe someone wants to do one of the classic original Mystery Stories? (original or revised text)
Or The Clues Brothers or Secret Files? (both of which I do believe we've done at least once before.)
Don't forget that we can also do the one-off titles like The Hardy Boys Detective Handbook (original or revised), The Hardy Boys Ghost Stories, The Hardy Boys Survival Handbook, The Hardy Boys' Guide to Life or any of the other series listed at the start of this thread. :)

Basically just offer a review of the book- maybe what was your favorite part of the book, what made you unable to put it down for a second, what could have been done better- whatever else. Your general impression of the book and why you think it was worth reviewing. Perhaps some significant events in the book, particularly if it's something revealed about Frank and Joe that we didn't previously know. (without being too spoilers-ish, of course.)  Anything like that.

Okay- just 6 more slots open. Anyone else wanting to grab another month? I'll take another slot if necessary, but I'd prefer to let different members have each month if possible...

Question.  How are these discussed?  Just within the forums?  Has anyone thought about doing a video cam discussion or audio discussion.

I am trying to figure out how much interest there might be in doing a Google+ Hangout on the Hardy Boys Encyclopedia Google+ Page (https://plus.google.com/u/0/110324023039553492631/posts), and this seems like a great place to possible try one out.

5-10 people Discussing one of the books each month via web cam.  Thoughts?  I don't want to change up what everyone is doing here as I certainly have not really been a participant, so if you don't like this idea or most of you do not have webcams, that is fine.

Vote away in the Poll in the webmasters section about your web cam use to give me an idea on at least people's use of web cams.

Not a bad idea, though I think there could be some concerns with it. Primarily we've just been creating a new thread for each month and book though.

It would be one thing if we all knew each other in real life, but since we don't. It's a no for me. There could be real concerns with it. My parents would not be happy if I did that! >:(

So August to December 2012 are still open.

I'll put my name down again for December.

December - tomswift2002 Time Bomb, A Hardy Boys and Tom Swift Ultra Thriller

(Do we maybe three people up to leading the discussion on one of the titles in the Operation: Phoenix trilogy, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2012, between, oh, September and November?)

April - tomswift2002 Final Gambit (Hardy Boys Casefiles #62)
May -  Dinosaur Dan High Stakes (Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys SuperMystery '88 #29)
June - Top Ten ways to die(Hardy boys undercover Brother, #8
July - Olivia TBA
August -
September - Operation Phoenix #1 Endangered Species -
October - Operation Phoenix #2 No Mercy -
November - Operation Phoenix #3 The Phoenix Equation -
December - tomswift2002 Time Bomb,  A Hardy Boys and Tom Swift Ultra Thriller.

Well the "doubling up" time opened on December 1.  So if Mistletoe wants to do Operation: Phoenix #1: Endangered Species in September then MacGyver you could have your pick of No Mercy or The Phoenix Equation

Of course do you guys want the discussion starting in August, and then having a month (November) between The Phoenix Equation and Time Bomb (since TB acts like an epilogue to the whole trilogy) with someone else leading a discussion on another book or would you rather go through all three Phoenix books plus TB during the last four months and have the last unconnected book in August by someone else?  Or if there are others who would like to discuss different books during those months who haven't already signed up, let us know.

If Time Bomb serves as an epilogue to the trilogy, then I'd rather have all 4 books together if possible. And I'll be happy to take on No Mercy and let someone else grab The Phoenix Equation.
Then if someone will just take that August slot, we'll be set. Maybe an original or one of the Digests might be nice to add a little more variety and that way give us a title from pretty much all the different Hardy Boys continuities...

Since we have mostly Casefiles, should I choose one as well? Or diversify a bit and pick an Original?

Here are a few blocks of numbers that I have (figured it was easiest this way). Let me know which ones you own, are interested in, or what you recommend. (Yeah, it's a long list, but I rather have more people participate.)

Casefiles: 30-34, 36-37, 39-46

030 The Deadliest Dare
031 Without A Trace
032 Blood Money
033 Collision Course
034 Final Cut
036 Running On Empty
037 Danger Zone
039 Flesh And Blood
040 Fright Wave
041 Highway Robbery
042 The Last Laugh
043 Strategic Moves
044 Castle Fear
045 In Self-Defense
046 Foul Play

Originals: 9-12

09 The Great Airport Mystery
10 What Happened at Midnight
11 While the Clock Ticked
12 Footprints Under the Window

031 Without A Trace
032 Blood Money
033 Collision Course
034 Final Cut
037 Danger Zone

I haven't made it all the way though Collision Course, but it seems good so far. :D

If we'd rather do another Casefile, my vote is Blood Money (#32 Casefile).

Ack! Days away from March and I see that I am set to lead the next discussion on the first book in The Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers series and I still need to read the book! Talk about Extreme Danger! ;) And we will do just that- I'll probably have to give it a week or so first though, just to have time to finally get through this book (though I suspect it won't take terribly long). So I'll have a thread up for it in the next few days- and I'll contribute to the discussion as I'm going along reading the book too. And that way you're getting first hand impressions from a longtime Hardy Boys fan finally reading a book in this series for the first time- and all in real time, as I go through each chapter! :D 8)
The ironic thing is- I'll be starting in on the UB series just in time for it to be cancelled... ;D

DUCK!

Who is leading us into the Danger Zone? I've been through it. 8)

And that Duck is because I was watching an episode of "The Muppet Show" that day and the Veterinarian's Hospital had them working on a duck.

Hey everyone. As I said in the "Totally Off-Topic Discussion" thread, I'm going to be away for a while on vacation.

Here are the titles I'm looking at for July. Discuss which ones work for you, and I'll see your responses when I get back. I'm open to suggestions as well :)

The Short Road Mystery (#6 Original)
The Great Airport Mystery (#9 Original)

Mystery Train (ND & HBs Supermystery '88)

Much as I love Mystery Train, we've already had some Supermystery titles on the schedule this year and no Original Series books yet, so I'd be inclined to go with one of those. The Great Airport Mystery would be a cool one to do. (I'm voting for this because I remember it a bit better, but I like The Shore Road Mystery too.)

I'd recommend The Shore Road Mystery since I remember that the Revised text opened with the Hardy's either at the beach or heading to the beach.

Yeah- I definitely remember some kind of scene involving boating on the water- they help their friend Jack Dodd find a treasure and clear his father's name, if I remember correctly...

Well, it looks like its trixy15's turn for Top Ten Ways To Die, book #8 from the Hardy Boys Undercover Brothers.

Maybe The Shore Road Mystery since it's lower in number (#6), and perhaps whoever does an Original next time can do The Great Airport Mystery (#9)? The only way I could decide.

Fine with me. Of course, I'm good with either one. I think it depends sometimes on what people readily have available, but both those titles are pretty easy to get from your local public library generally.

Happy Belated Canada Day to all our Canadian fans.  And in celebration of Canada Day it looks like Olivia has picked #6 The Shore Road Mystery, originally written in 1928 (and was the last issued book that year) by Canadian author Leslie McFarlane.  Edward Stratemeyer wrote the outline for McFarlane's text.  The original version is currently available from Applewood Books, having returned to print in 1996.  (Unfortunately, currently there are no legally authorized ebook editions of this text out, however the Revised text is available in ebook format from Grosset & Dunlap on multiple readers.). The Revised Text was outlined by Harriet Stratemeyer Adams, written by David Grambs and released in 1964.

With tomorrow being August 1, that means that it is P.Walker's turn to lead the discussion on Casefiles #2 Evil, Inc..  Come to think of it, we just passed the 25th anniversary of the release of this book in Apil 1987.

Hard too believe that the end of August is upon us.  That means that in a few days Katie will be leading the discussion for Operation:Phoenix#1: Endangered Species, #64 in the Casefiles.

I was just thinking, but for the Phoenix stories, it might be a good idea if we only discuss what has gone on so far in the story per month.

Yeah, that makes sense. For the last book in the series, we can comment on the trilogy as a whole at that point.

So it's Katie's turn too lead the discussion on Operation:Phoenix #3 The Phoenix Equation, No 66 in the Hardy Boys Casefiles.

And don't forget too sign-up for what book you'd like to discuss in 2013.
