I think it's the Bump Key but I want to hear your opinion.

I don't really remeber any of their gadgets... I think there was a laser pen  once?

Yeah, I remember the laser pen. The trip wire was cool, but I also liked the mini recording devices in Burned. Weren't their cell phones part gadgets too?

The laser pen was more like a reused prop from another series:  Tom Swift (Archway), since Tom had that in his pocket most of the time in that series, along with other pens that worked as telescopes, soldering irons, etc.

I'm sure Tom isn't the first fictional character to use one.

The laser pen was used several times (Extreme Danger, I think in Boardwalk Bust, and Top Ten Ways to Die). Seems to be a popular thing.

So many cool gadgets to choose from.  8) Yeah, I agree the best ATAC gadget: their motorcycles 8)

And their brains are their best non-ATAC gadgets and even better than all of their ATAC gadgets put together!  ;)  ;D

Unfortunately they were under utilized in the series.  The Hardy's have had motorcycles in the past that we're not outfitted with gadgets and they still utilized them more in those appearances than they did in the UB's or even the graphic novels.  (The boys used their bikes during the first six books of the Original series, plus they used their motorcycles in the 1977 TV series.)

The motorcycles (or is it technically dirtbikes? I guess it's about the same difference really) also show up in the Casefiles at least once- #104 Wild Wheels

With the conversation on motorcycles: in the Hardy Boys Mystery Stories they have their cool motorcycles in many of the books. 8) As Frank cleverly said in #190 Motocross Madness (2005) -
Quote"I remember reading an account of Hardys riding cycles as long ago as nineteen twenty-seven."

;D 8)

Oh yeah- I love cool inside jokes and references like that. Which is one of the few redeeming qualities about The Case of the Psychic's Vision- it actually has 2 or 3 really good such ones. But it also a lot of other stuff in there that I don't like so much... I finally read it a while back just to say that I'd read all of The Hardy Boys from #1-190 (well, revised versions anyway, for the most part)- but it was one of the last ones I finally picked up and read. It has a few good things though and is still entertaining overall.
Anyway, this is getting further off track.  ;) ;D lol

What was wrong with that book? I liked it.

I liked some things about it. As to what I disliked about it, it was mainly the same concerns I have regarding Supernatural. As I've probably said before, others may not care and that's fine- but I try to be particularly cautious regarding the supernatural and its portrayal- and I just didn't care for the portrayal of it in this book. While it's true that police today do employ the use of psychics, I don't think The Hardy Boys of the Original Series books would ever so readily accept psychics as valid. Again, the concern for me here particularly as a Christian is the source of power. Only God knows the future. He has granted some knowledge of it to prophets in the past, but those revelations are contained in The Bible- I don't believe He has chosen to reveal anything further nor needs to. Thus, and especially considering that God expressly forbids His people to have anything to do with psychics, when people claim to be able to read minds and/or tell the future, they are claiming power that only God has- and if they're not getting it from Him, there's only one other source they could get any spiritual access from- and that's the devil.
And I know we can say that it's just a story and to not take it too seriously, but again- I just choose to be particularly cautious. And like I said- this getting off track from the original topic as well...

George Edward Stanley, who wrote "The Case Of The Psychic's Vision", also wrote "The Mystery of the Black Rhino", "One False Step", and "The Secret Of The Soldier's Gold". He also wrote several Nancy Drew books, including 4  Clue Crew books. He wrote over 100 kids books. He died on Monday, February 7, 2011.

"The Case Of The Psychic's Vision" and "The Mystery of the Black Rhino" are considered by many people to be two of the worst Hardy Boys books.

Thanks for the info, Dan. I actually like The Mystery of the Black Rhino a lot better than The Case of the Psychic Vision, but one thing I will say that I like about both of them- the titles were a nice throwback to the classic naming sequence for the Original Series with all of those "The Mystery of....", "The Secret of....", "The Clue of...." and "The Case of...." type titles.
And The Secret of the Soldier's Gold was a great title- I particularly enjoyed that one- probably because of my love for treasure hunts and such. :)

Do you think that Frank and Joe could've solved the case without the psychic?  :-\

Adding that psychic kid in just made it more creepy. I don't like how the Hardys just readily accepted it. ::) Is there a thread for this book?

There is a thread for the "The Case of the Psychic Vision" and "The Mystery of the Black Rhino":
http://www.hardyboyscasefiles.com/forums/index.php?topic=1919.0

We should continue the discussion there, as what was originally a topic on gadgets in the UBs has now turned into a discussion on "The Case Of The Psychic's Vision" .
