Title: Web of Horror
Post by: tomswift2002 on May 25, 2009, 09:34:23 PM
The Hardy Boys Casefiles #53
Web Of Horror
July 1991

Plot: After Joe witnesses a couch eating a man alive, things start to go wrong on the set of the latest Horror House movie.  A producer winds up dead, the Hardy's get acid at them, and some one is making fake heads.  What is going on and why is up to the Hardy's to find out.

Review:  I've read this book about 4 or 5 times now.  And each time it still is a really fun read, even though I don't like horror stories.

But I have to say that I think this was the best series to have Web Of Horror in, since I don't think it would've fit in with the Original/Digest line, and it definitely would not have fit in with the Undercover Brothers line.  But with the Casefiles, because Simon & Schuster had built up a world that was more adult oriented and we had seen cases about homicidal maniacs and Assassins blowing up people, this case is a real first for a Hardy Boys book.

Unfortunately there were some things that the author was apparently borrowing from Hollywood --- such as bullets being able to blow up a car's gas tank, but still the story was fun and interesting.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10.

It's simple: The couch is bigger than man. Couch mad. Couch eat man.

Get the book and find out.  Or are you not getting where the book takes place?

We've tried eBay, but we can never get them. Kids have kind of shallow pockets.....

How about inter-library loan at your local library.  You can usually get the books in for a price kids can afford: free.

Well, I must say that my first copy of Web Of Horror was from the library, and I remember that I was the last person to check it out before the library discarded it, and when I checked it out the last time the cover fell off on me, but the cover had only been hanging on by a thread when I checked it out.  Anyway, I've got that book in my collection and it has quite a bit of tape on it. Infact, when I reread Web Of Horror, even though I've got a better, near mint copy, the copy I read was the ex-library one.

Just read through this one for the first time, but didn't feel it held up to some of the better casefiles. Slightly better than average. The whole slasher film base didn't work like it could have.
