I've always thought a Fenton Hardy series would be cool.

Hmmm, I'm torn between Hardy Cousins and Fenton Hardy.

I'd really like to see more of Fenton, but I like the idea of seeing the Hardy's grown up and their kids solving mysterys.

The cousins. The parents would still be around (and those are the best pairings too).

I'd like to see a series with The Hardy Boys grown up, with Frank married to Nancy Drew (but the publisher would have to come up with good explanation for the reason why Frank and Callie aren't married) and Joe and Bess (same as with Frank and Nancy/Callie).

But I'd also like to see a series just about Fenton Hardy, maybe taking place before the books written in the 1920's.

ATAC agents, so they can end the UBs, and instead have someone else work for ATAC. That way the HB can solve cases on their own, and hang out with thier freinds, instead of ATAC being their only lives,

I don't know about a series just about ATAC agents, since it seems that whenever we see another ATAC agent in the regular novels by Simon & Schuster, that agent always goes rogue. (ie. Rocky Road, Club Dread)

Personally, I'd like to see Chet, Biff, Tony, Phil get together and form The Bayport Detective Agency.

  • Chet - A master of disguise and frequent source of humour
  • Biff - brawn of the operation
  • Phil - brains of the operation
  • Tony - ladies man, perhaps?

Better hope there are no cases involving ladies clothing stores, otherwise, I think we'd know where Tony would be.

I think that a series about Fenton on the NYPD would be pretty cool. Given the right plot development, it might even be better than the original Hardy Boys (though, given the publication of the UBs, Junie B. Jones would probably be better than the original Hardy Boys nowadays). It could feature actual grown up elements and crimes that don't take 10 seconds to piece together. It could have guest appearances by Lara Hardy and explain how they fell in love and how Aunt "Trudy" came to live with Fenton and his new wife. Heck, they could even throw in a few team-ups with a straight-out-of-Law School Carson Drew.

I agree. Also Sam Peterson could be the co-star of the series. And later on in the series, you could even work Jake Johansen into the story.

Especially considering that on the 1977 TV Show The Hardy Boys Nancy Drew Mysteries Fenton Hardy and Carson Drew were especially chummy during the Arson and Old Lace episode.

It wouldn?t really be a detective series. Or if it was, it would be more of a comedic one. But it would be funny.

There was going to be a series about Chet Morton, never made it past plot summeries though.

Yeah, I read about that proposed Chet Morton series once a while back- it seems it would have involved Chet and his many, many, many hobbies. Could've been interesting, and I would suspect pretty funny. But I don't know that I would've have cared that much about it- other than something of a Hardy Boys oddity kind of spin-off.

OK I like the idea of a young Fenton being the main character and kind of being like Frank and Joe are now. I also like the Hardy kids. However, I am NOT a big Frank/Nancy fan or a Joe/Bess fan. So I can't vote. :( If it was Frank/Callie or Frank/anyone else but Nancy or Joe and Vanessa or even Joe/Iola...then awesome. It would be even funnier if Joe's kids turned out more like Frank and Frank's kids turned out more like Joe. OR They solve mysteries because their dad and uncle and grandfather have told them so many cool stories.

I definitely could see that being cute and interesting. Just not the Nancy part. Sorry.

Looks like it's a three-way tie between Fenton, The Hardy Cousins, and Agents of ATAC. I'm surprised Fenton isn't winning. I think a prequel series in which we could learn the Hardy backstory would be really interesting.

Haha- Coy and Vance were the look-alike cousins of Bo and Luke Duke that showed up in the 5th. season of The Dukes of Hazzard. John Schneider and Tom Wopat had temporarily left the show and two similar-looking actors were brought in to play their cousins and drive the General Lee. Cool! I once met Rick Hurst (the actor who played Cletus Hogg)- but I didn't get a photo with him. I didn't have the money for that at the time. But it was neat to say I met him and I did get a few pictures of The Dukes of Hazzard museum that I had stopped in at- fun. :)

Yeah, a lot of people will get the last letter of their name wrong, since they are thinking "Boys" as in plural, not realizing that the wrestlers use a Z instead of an S.

Yeah- but you can't do much about it. It's nice that big, tough wrestlers reference The Hardy Boys with their wrestling names. (Okay, so their names honestly are Matt and Jeff Hardy- so it may not have been really a tribute- but I imagine they must have heard of the book series enough times anyway at least with a famous name like that.) ;D

A series featuring Iola and Callie? or maybe a Special series (similar to Nancy Drew Super Mystery: Where's Nancy?) where the supporting cast takes over the main story.
Title: Re: Spin Offs
Post by: MacGyver on January 17, 2013, 12:53:48 PM
I think a cool spinoff series would be to see the Stratemeyer Syndicate do a version of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen- a huge crossover series that would regularly feature some of their prominent characters joining forces to solve particularly tough and special mysteries- or working together on a mission of some sort. I'm mainly thinking it could regularly feature Frank and Joe Hardy of course, Nancy Drew, Tom Swift, The Dana Girls, The Bobbsey Twins and The Happy Hollisters. And The Rover Boys should be included because it's the first of Edward Stratemeyer's series and apparently one of his favorites, since he actually personally wrote some of the stories. I'm not as familiar with some of the other series though I know there are a number of other lesser known ones- but a lot of other characters could be included with some perhaps just on a guest star basis or whatever- Bomba the Jungle Boy, Don Sturdy, Ted Scott, Linda Craig, Christopher Cool, Kay Tracey, X Bar X Boys, The Radio Boys, The Radio Girls, The Moving Picture Boys, The Motor Boys, The Motor Girls, The Outdoor Girls, Baseball Joe, Air Service Boys and tons others to choose from.
I'm not sure if Honey Bunch would quite fit the motif but she might could make a cameo somewhere (lol- nowadays, I think people might see the name and think of Honey Boo Boo mistakenly- definitely quite different.) And sadly, I'm afraid The Y.M.C.A. Boys might give people the wrong idea too if they mistake them for The Village People boys....
Anyway- it would probably never happen but it could make for a really neat series, either as a book series or even in comic books. :) 8)

Title: Re: Spin Offs
Post by: MacGyver on January 17, 2013, 03:05:25 PM
Yeah, that's true. At least the comic book series did a Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys crossover before Papercutz ended its run on The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew (at least for the moment, anyway.) That's the first time that's happened in comic book form, as far as I know. And Nancy Drew had a crossover with the Dana Girls in the comics too and it was fun to read that. Too bad Tom Swift didn't get to do a crossover with either The Hardys or Nancy... Maybe the new Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew series that are starting soon might decide to do a crossover of some sort- you never know.
